Looking at your post history, I see you were waiting for the class at xjt. There is a good chance you will not get a call from c5 until you have experience in the 121 world.

ATP is the new norm for a long time, regardless of 121 carrier.

I'm not expecting anything. This is also a catch 22. You will not get a job in the 121 world until you get experience in the 121 world.

Correct, not during an economic downturn when there are thousands on the street whose qualifications and experience far outcompete those who are trying to break in from the starting blocks jobs. This isn't the first or last time it will happen.

C'mon now. You work at C5. You know there is no such thing as DEC. You also should know that upgrades are awarded in seniority order as long as there are FO's that 1) meet the requirements for upgrade and 2) bid for upgrade at whatever base will be awarded. For example, I highly doubt any upgrade vacancies will be posted for EWR or IAD captains. The next vacancy -- whenever it is -- will most likely be for IAH captains. If you are an upgrade eligible (i.e. meet the requirements) FO in EWR or IAD don't want to commute to IAH you may choose to delay upgrading until you can hold captain in your preferred base. At that point, the company would award the upgrade to someone outside seniority order. It may be the next person on the seniority list or it may even be someone going through training. But, nobody is hired as a captain. We do not have anything in our contract that permits that.
Now, did you listen to the MEC call yesterday? If not, I'll fill you in. We currently have about 35-40 FOs that meet the requirements to upgrade. They would be offered the opportunity to upgrade before any "DEC". Whether they choose to or not is totally up to them.
Someone (presumably an FO) asked on the call if there is any way to "protect" FOs that almost have the time to upgrade. Short answer: no. Long answer: it was a dumb question and the answer is still no. See above; upgrades are awarded to the eligible people when the vacancy closes. Period, end of story.
Sorry if my post sounds like I'm being a jerk. Maybe this is why the MEC doesn't let me moderate the calls. They probably know I would answer a number of questions by saying something along the lines of, "That's a dumb question...moving on." Lol...just kidding...kind of.
