How long will that Jan/Mar guy be on Rsv and will it be on jet or TBP?

How long will it take to hold left seat Jet? I don't mean to be rude but can all the guys/gals on the Dash make it on the jet especially in the left seat without previous jet time?

Why do people seem to think there's a difference between a jet and a turboprop? It's just another aircraft... if they passed training on the dash they can pass training on the jungle jet...

I'll have to disagree Av8. Speed, Mach tuch/buffet etc.. are a few issues. AND not just TBP to Jets but Narrowbody to Widebody and Classic to EFIS.

Now this example is from years ago and I know does not always apply however; My father went Left Seat L188 to Left seat DC8 but had previous DC8 right seat time. A lot of guys did NOT make it! Also, to move up to the widebody you needed time in type so although he could hold the DC10 and 747 he had to fly right seat in it first.

I would think that insurance, and the major airlines decisions, might have more to do with it.

I am not sure what Piedmont is doing.

Reserve for that captain = indefinite until their seniority can hold it. My guess will be 15 months.

I think with ORD supposedly opening up end of this year, the ERJ will go junior because most people are from the northeast and don't want to commute; it is a total guess what will happen.

There is no upgrade requirement besides the 1000 hours and I don't see dash people having issues, if they have the time.

I agree, but Braniff does have a point. The challenges are energy and speed management. People WILL pass sim because you are stable and slow throughout the profiles; however, when you get out on the line with ATC it changes everything. I foresee a lot of ASAPs/FOQA coming out when the ERJ goes online. Nothing serious, just a lot of "unstable" approaches/250 below 10k write ups.

This doesn't make any sense. The dash8 is an airplane as well. None of you started out flying a CRJ or ERJ, you went from a Piper Cherokee, Cessna 172 to a CRJ or ERJ, did you have problems with speed, Mach? No! you received training to fly the thing. You're just undermining CommutAir pilots.

Also, a lot of the pilots on the 145 both left and right seat will already have a bunch of 145 time.

I was in Cleveland on Thursday doing paperwork for the April class. I was told the first 145 class is expected to be in May. Training will be in Dulles for a few months for both aircraft. Then 145 training will shift somewhere else.
