I had a bunch of Compass guys buy me a beer the other day (I'm an xj fo), I too have only heard of nice things about compass (besides the normal airline problems). I think if we did come together and tried to survive on our own (unlikely at the moment to me, but hey I'll play along), we have all new, large, fuel saving planes, and new pilots (hint, hint, low wages). Why wouldn't we be a fairly big player in the proposed new regional world order talked about in the first post. P.S.- I'm a firm believer in not believing jumpseat gossip (I was expecting the delta-nwa merger every week for about 20 consecutive weeks, ha-ha), but if this idea is true, then compass please don't bring your study-at-home training, and flow through stuff with you. Besides that, I'm ok with you guys. There....you have the approval of a "Know nothin' " first year FO. Merger approved!

Many of the top seniority at Compass are former Mesaba pilots. There is absolutely NO wide spread animosity between Mesaba and Compass pilots. Period.
On a side note: It's pretty warm in MSP today... good thing I packed my flip flops

Add this to the rumor mill...Mesaba and Compass will merge, then that combined carrier will merge with Northwest so Northwest has more people and power to bargin with in this Delta merger. Heard it from a friend's friend's boyfriend's mom's sister in law's twice removed cousin's buddy from college!

I keep reading these rumors on this forum that Mesaba and Compass will be sold, but I have not read any evidence to this. NWA will not be selling Mesaba anytime soon. In a few years maybe. Compass was a creation by NWA pilots from what I have gathered. The NWA rep at the joint NWA/DAL merger presentation said Mesaba and Compass will continue business as usual.
Also no one at XJ talks about Compass much. Not really interested that much because there are so many things going on at XJ right now.

As far as I know, Compass and Mesaba people don't say anything about each other. We go to work, we do our jobs, we go home. Compass/Mesaba merger could happen (because anything can in this industry), however more than likely it will not.

Rumors are fun, but if you put any faith in them you will inevitably be disappointed

Usually rumors are just that, rumors. But once in a while some rumors do come true. ie., NWA Delta merger rumor was going around for over a year and no one seriously believed it will actually happen until it actually happened (officially not yet approved but in every aspect it looks like it is going forward).
I do not see Compass merging with Mesaba because there are too many barriers to have that happen. For one, Mesaba has the protection against NWA pilot flow down, only the same number of Mesaba pilot who have flowed up can flow down to Mesaba, even then the seniority numbers of those Mesaba pilots who have flowed up remains vacant so no one is really displaced at Mesaba, where as at Compass, everyone can be displaced by NWA furloughees. Another is there are way too many senior pilots at Mesaba who will never agree to merging the seniority number with Compass unless Compass pilots are stapled at the bottom and I seriously doubt Compass pilots would go for that. Date of hire might work if certain conditions are met. This does not mean anything though, if the NWA management wants to merge Mesaba and Compass, it will happen no matter what. I have not heard any substantiated facts to this rumor so I am discounting it.

Even merging Mesaba and Compass based on date of hire would put all the Compass pilots near the bottom of a combined list. (fine for me they'd all end up below me) but I can't see most of those guys going for such an arangement.... But relative senoirity would give the top well almost everyone at Compass a nice windfall award that would not be very well taken here.

If we merge I can see 3 to 5 year fences so no Mesaba pilot or Compass pilot will get ****ed that someone else took their seat
I highly doubt that we will merge, that would make it harder to spin off Compass or Mesaba and keeping two separate certificates.
A rumor I heard is that NWA will sell Compass ala ASA to Skywest so they will get E175 and keep them separate and eventually bring some E175 to Skywest
