As far as flying goes, we (Compass) will begin a transition to West Coast flying beginning in September, with an even bigger shift in January. It will start with LAX/SEA flying and then transition to lots of flying out of LAX in phase 2. What has been talked about, and will need to happen to support the amount of LAX flying Delta wants us to do in January is a LAX base. Most likely this will come at the expense of DTW which will probably be closed. We will also see a draw down in LGA flying as well as a downsizing in MSP.
Does this mean possible base opening at LAX?

It's the only way this LAX flying is going to work. There wont be enough feeder flights from MSP to crew all the stuff Delta wants us to fly... I know starting in September there will be a MSP-MCI-LAX-SEA line of flying as well as some MCI-LAX turns with an LAX overnight but that still wont be enough to crew all the LAX flying come January...part of what we are slated to operate will be the LAX-SFO shuttle...10+ flights a day alone right there.

should be interesting if it happens.... i know we have some west coast commuters but they are a small percentage, seems like most guys live in the cities or commute from around the midwest. guess they better staff us a little heavier going into this, but dont see any signs of that happening right? im guessing lax is gonna go pretty junior if it ends up being a base.

Yeah I do think LAX or whatever west coast base they come up with will go junior. But I also don't see the need to staff us any heavier. They're just basically going shift everything we do east right now, west. No additional flying, just different markets. With Delta trying to beef up LAX/SEA and their west coast presence it only makes sense to put the top performing DCI carrier out there!

I don't think a new base will open if the past is any indicator. Delta moves everyone every 3 to 6 months. We have heard rumors off new bases before. With cost it would take to move crews I don't think it makes money sense when the flying changes rapidly. So I don't see them jumping to open a new base.

My bold prediction? A reduction in msp for cps as pinnacle/endeavor drops 50 seaters and brings the large crj's online freeing up comWell one step at a time just get it looked at west. Take 30 or so crews from Minne and go west. Then again 2 DCI carriers have had bases close in LAX in less than 12 mos from opening (Asa and Xjt).

Right now we are still doing some east coast in the fall and winter. So dtw probably stays to do that.

TSH seems to like small bases. Like Stl and rdu

If you can find a Help Wanted ad in the LA Times for flight attendants, I'll believe a base is opening out there. The only thing certain in all of this, is that 100% of the DTW flight attendants and 99% of the MSP FAs will NOT commute to L.A.

It is possible to do LAX flying from the bases you currently have. Look at how Eagle does the LAX flying for AA currently, that is subject to change as RAH comes on board. But Eagle operates probably 10 CRJs out west on a given day. Also someone mentioned the shuttle between SFO and LAX, Eagle does something similar with LAX-SAN and it work well.

But even if they don't open a base and you just see 4 days trips starting in MSP, it will be nice in the winter to get to beach

I'm going with ... SFO-LAX flying on Sept. 2nd from MSP continuing LGA service using DTW as a base and extending MCI service to support LGA and LAX...

SkyWest does the shuttle LAX-SFO and LAX-OAK daily on the 700/900

And Delta as Increased our flying quite a bit out of LAX so maybe they have plans for more
