Or when you interviewed at places like Expressjet and Republic and they turned more than 50% of the people away?

Republic hasn't been in a position to turn away 50% of people for 10 years.

Or when you had to pay for your own airline training?

Ahhh the good ol days. When you needed 10,000 hours to get a pipeline gig, after which 50,000 hours of that and 2 lunar landings you were only JUST competitive for that Metroliner gig.

Kids these days, it's all about "Me me me"

So damn entitled.

Just because it used to be worse doesn't mean we should be content with how it is now.

Somehow this thread found its way to page 2..., so I'll ask the question that a few people are wondering; the "new" version of the interview, is it really that much different from the way it was? Or is it the same as the gouges without the Delta computer brain test? Thanks!

I just interviewed this week. I was expecting it to be different than the Delta gouge but it was very similar. I think it's just different questions but the same exact concepts.

I interviewed a couple weeks ago here and I will say, this interview wasn't hard or bad at all. The written test was hard for someone who didn't study at all or for someone with zero 121 experience. The actual interview was pretty straight forward, HR style interview with "tell me about a time..." "what would you do..." stuff like that. I felt the gouges out there are very in depth for what the actual interview entailed.

I've been reading the written test is almost all theory, no calculations. Is that true? Been going over the Compass study guide gouge, I'll take a look at Deltas too I suppose. Thanks.

That is correct. PM me with your email for a study guide.

Could I possibly get the study guide too?

Nothing to really study. Just know aero dynamics of swept wing, know how a turbine engine works, and know the proper start order of a turbine engine as this was a question that all 5 of us got on our written. There is know calculations or anything crazy like that. Study up on V1, Rotate jet ops stuff which is detailed in the Turbine Pilot's Flight Manual book. Im not sure if its a pass or fail test, even tho they say it is, but all 5 of us passed the test and I was the only one with 121 experience.

I do appreciate the feedback, I have always been one to try and over prepare and maybe I am doing it again this time but I have never done any airline interview.

I honestly felt the written test you will take first was a lot harder than the interview. I found myself scratching my head on questions stuck between two answers. Just use your best judgement on questions like that and obviously don't read into the question.

For any of the recent new hires, where did you guys book you hotel for the one day orientation?

I just went back to the holiday inn express in Eagan where they put my up for the interview. About half of our new hire class was there, so call early and book it soon.

TOMM 09-25-2015 09:15 AM

The courtyard across the highway will sometimes do a Delta rate for you. I think out the door is was 65 or 75 bucks

GrassstripflyerZSE 09-25-2015 09:26 AM

Also ask for the Compass rate and they'll hook you up! The breakfast is great! And most of my class was there as well. The drive to Pan Am was ohh 6 minutes.

Fpmx772 09-25-2015 09:46 AM

Right on, thanks guys!

goirishgo1976 09-25-2015 01:54 PM

Got the call from Compass yesterday. Interviewing in October. Thanks for all the info out there.

Anyone know how many times (if any) in a given amount of time we are allowed to switch bases? I looked in the CBA. Didnt find it. Maybe im missing something. Just curious if there is any contractual roadblocks if someone were to switch bases 2 times in a year.

You can switch as much as you want

Planedrive 09-26-2015 02:38 PM

Banana hammock and the hat... Gotta wear the hat

SigHansen 09-26-2015 02:49 PM

So being that I'm inpatient and can't wait until next week to get all the home study stuff, did any of you guys struggle to grasp any of the info?

It's not that bad. Just get through it. Pay attention to the systems portion and invest some time in PIC and SIC flows. You will be spoon fed the non systems/flows information. Just get through the home study stuff early. I suggest doing the systems last and expect it to take 3 or 4 days to learn (then refresh yourself over the first few weeks before your systems validation). You'll be fine.

Polo Khakis, don't be the guy with the tie.

sevenforseven 09-28-2015 03:18 PM

I'd wear a baby blue tux with ruffles.

Info

Posted in Envoy and XJT thread:

Looking for some honest info, no trolls please.

Have calls from Envoy, Compass, Express Jet, Silver, GoJet to interview. Also one with Mountain Air Cargo. I'm on the east coast, so Sky west was not really an option for me.

I need to get some recency of 121 so I can be more competitive with majors. Been inactive from flying, other than some 91 stuff, for the better part of 2 years.

I would like your thoughts on which regional to go with or should I look seriously at MAC. Thanks in advance.

3800 TT, 3700 PIC turbine, F-16 IP/SEFE, King Air 350, Cirrus SR-22, L-39

Compass is pretty west coast heavy right now. MSP is senior and that's a bit of a commute from the east side. I know guys that did the transcon commute and said it wasn't that bad, got first class a lot etc... i don't know. The commute is the worst part of the job in my opinion.

There are rumors at Compass of some east coast flying (LGA) but that's just rumor for now. Compass is a good bet for a regional but Endeavor might be your best bet on the east coast.

Keep working your mil contacts and good luck.

Given your experience you won't be staying very long wherever you end up. Go wherever you can be based at home and get off reserve quick. I doubt you'll need to worry about upgrade times. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Flica shows me as an LAX FO on a few things, such as open time pot. I finished CA OE last week and have a CA Oct schedule. Anyone in particular I can talk to so it shows me as CA?
