Nope, didn't go to any aviation university

Theoretically speaking, when would I need to be hired/online before the quick upgrade goes away?

To be guaranteed an upgrade with the planned growth, probably in class by Jan or Feb. After that, you will need attrition to upgrade.

While I'm sure we will have attrition, no one can say for sure how fast it will be.

Here is the math from an earlier post:

I think it's getting close to the end of the quick upgrade. 150 flows left and the AA planes require about 110 captains.

So 260 captains needed. We have approximately 220 FO's as of last bid packet. So only 40 people hired will actually be needed to staff the captains seats. I think more than 40 are slated for class between now and January.

That doesn't account for any other attrition.

So you would most likely upgrade from attrition rather than growth. That could be "fast" or it might not. I think we'll have decent attrition after the flow ends, but that is my opinion.

It will be more than 40 new hires who will upgrade. The plan right now is over 300 upgrades by Fall 2015, speaking with the head of the training dept. And like mentioned before there are quite a few who won't have the time to upgrade so even more new hires will be able to upgrade in a year. The people who won't have the time currently on property could take awhile to to upgrade. They will have to wait for attrition if they don't get the hours in time.

Here is some food for thought. At the UAL FFD Open House the director of training spoke with us. He said United will be hiring 1300+ pilots over the next 20 months and interviewing ~2900. If you extrapolate that to all 3 mainlines you're going to be seeing roughly 3900 pilots hired at the legacy level alone in the next 2 years. Will the upgrade be 18 months if you're hired for a class date after February? Maybe not, but will it be the current standard of 4+ years at most regionals? Absolutely not.

This is exactly correct. Many regionals have a large contingent of 'Lifers' who will never leave. Those CAs take up potential upgrades for FOs and make pregression slower. Compass has less lifers than I have fingers. Everybody at CP is trying to move on... a quick upgrade WILL happen for new hires well into 2015.
And even after the 9 month upgrade is over, it will be a faster upgrade than most other places.

Quick upgrade

Does it seem like most guys at Compass are going to hold out for Delta, or are they open to go to any major/legacy?

The vast majority that I have flown with are holding out. However, I fly with a lot of captains who have their resumes in at the other majors and wouldn't hesitate to take an earlier class date with the others. Some have gone to United and USAir and a few other places. Most of the captains have gone on to Delta.

About 25% of the CA's are nonflow guys now and will go to whatever Major calls and hires them.

Looking at the map, it seems like more flying coming out of SLC than SEA for October. Any talk still going on of that becoming a base in the future?

FWIW...

I was hired August 2013, about 40 from upgrade at this time (give or take)... Looking at the last flow eligible pilot compared to my seniority at this point I will be in the top 150 if NO ONE else takes Compass Rights...

22% overall, about 50% in the captains... That's assuming no other attrition...
