What's the best outcome for the pilots here if American decides not to renew Compass's contract? Cross their fingers for more Delta flying? Do we just end up grossly overstaffed? The exodus begins and people start at the bottom elsewhere or get hired as street captains on reserve for eternity?

Asking because my interview is coming up this week and, well, I'm taking a hard look at this.

And just like that, in 8 hours the pilots of APC destroyed any hope of fixing our staffing issue. I can hear the newhire classes emptying now.

According to this thread, compass has been in imminent danger of closing its doors since 2012. 2 months ago y’all were 100% certain Republic was buying us, and a month before that it was SkyWest. A month before that it was Endeavor.

Keep flying, keep volunteering, keep updating your resumes. In the mean time if we could not sink our own ship, over fear and speculation, that would be great

Dude its all good. In a doomsday scenario, you would come fly 1000hrs and we would shut down, then you would get a big fat bonus somewhere after getting one here. Then you would be a reserve street captain "not for eternity" for a little while until you go mainline. Depending on what you want in life, you might just get hired from the right seat. Movement will be very good this year. Just stay flexible, roll with the punches. And enjoy the ride.. guys, it's not 2008 anymore.

**edit: but I stand by my promise to pillage snack baskets if there is a draw down announced

If the worst case is taking the last of the $17,500 new hire bonus in a year and your new E170/190 type rating and 1000 hours of SIC experience and going out and getting a DEC new hire bonus somewhere else, that really isn't that bad.

I'd rather be an FO for a year somewhere I want to be followed by commuting to reserve at LGA (with another new hire bonus) than not getting a bonus, commuting to reserve at LGA as an FO for a year or two anyway, and then eventually making Ca and commuting to reserve at LGA WITHOUT the DEC bonus until you get the call up.

It isn't like a lot of people actually plan on making Compass their career. Does it even have anyone with more than four or five years seniority that are actual line fliers?

BobbyLee isn't just blowing smoke up your ***.

All the regionals are having troubles right now because of high attrition to the majors and declining numbers of quality applicants and there are going to be changes because of it. But over the next 4-5 years it's still the best opportunity for advancement to the majors in your lifetime and if anyone thinks that 650 well trained pilots won't have multiple good opportunities for advancement whatever happens, they are wrong.

My 2 cents worth anyway...

I'd rather accrue seniority at the place I'm going to have to bail for rather than take a bonus to live in base for a year or two, then end up as a permanent Jr DEC.

My advice would be to grab the bigger FO bonus offered by the wholly owned, ride their seniority list up, and if Compass actually does lose the flying, get your LAX base with Envoy (should that be the case, you'll have the seniority to hold it).

Worst case the Compass birds go to someone other than the WO you end up at, you'll still upgrade as soon as you've got 1000 SIC, and you'll be in the pipeline for your career airline. That being said you can still apply to the other majors, and the one you've got flow or a preferential interview with.

I appreciate veewan and excargodog, I think yall both have the two ways of looking at it IF we were to lose the contracts.

Notice how both scenarios involve pilots having jobs, good movement, and making decent money for a regional? ...And eating oreo minis?
That's all I'm saying. I guess to each their own. If I lived on the west coast, I would still come here, but that just me. Veewan makes a good point too

I have first hand evidence that AA does love us. Mainline captain just bought my FO and myself dinner from the American cafe.
Nothing to worry about for Compass.
