The letter did say that "recruiting needs will come down" in 2017,so I'd take that as another sign of no new airframes coming

I'm willing to bet they're going to Republic. Now, the staffing is already great, now it's gonna be through the roof. Poor reserves though. 800+ crews operating 56 airplanes and new hire classes filled through March. Hmmm, pilot shortage at its finest...
