I also heard we are getting an MIA base too. I swear. I saw it on a yoke clip on one of the AA birds.

Rumor has it we are not interviewing enough people to keep up with attrition.

I see raised floors coming.
Not accurate, and that wouldn't solve the problem anyway, that would make it worse.
Sure, they haven't hired as many as they want, but that doesn't affect upgrades, we just stop making having 100 FO reserves.

Agreed. Upgrade more and that allows recruiting to show that our upgrade time is going to be more competitive, thus attracting more new hires. If you don't upgrade because of a concern of lack of FOs, you're just making the problem worse. Potential new hires then will see current FOs who are on reserve for a long time and be able to do the math that they won't upgrade for a long time and will decide to go somewhere else. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy or catch 22. Whichever you prefer.

Not to mention that upgrading more captains will mean the existing FOs will start to see upward movement, too, and get them off reserve into better relative seniority. It'd be much-needed good news for everyone all around, and you wouldn't have captains getting worked to death with 90+ hours and min days off either!

Moral of the story is: upgrade more captains! You upgrade them, the FOs will come (or at least more of them).

Has anyone actually asked a recruiter how many pilots we need vs how many they are actually getting to show up and interview?

It's one thing for the company to say we are turning pilots away (to keep quality up), its another if we're hiring everyone that just shows up.

Was on a Hawaiian Jumpseat today, and they know about the rumor as well.

We aren't hiring everybody who shows up. Go talk to a chief or a recruiter. They've been quite selective.

And we're very fat on FO's, they haven't slowed upgrades out of concern about FO's or anything. FO's aren't anywhere close to 95 hours, which would have to happen (95 hrs, less reserves, etc) before they would even consider something like that, which would create a death spiral anyway.

I don't think things are that bad, classes are still half full, they'll figure out they need to pay more money and when they do that we'll get the full classes again.
