You raise a valid point, but that logic does nothing to help the more experienced pilot looking for a job flying the same plane tomorrow. He should be charging the market rate, and then more as his experience grows, IMO.

To the OP, don't sell yourself short because you have 1000 hrs. We all had 1000hrs at one point. I very much doubt they're requesting your services out of love. When they bought a plane, they knew they'd need to pay for a pilot. If you're going to negotiate pay, better to start too high than too low.

 

What is a check and how do you haul it? ...My grandson is asking.

My reason for asking is because after years of trying to get medically certified by the FAA to fly, at the age of 63, it's finally about to happen. I've had many false starts before; spending thousands of $$$ on HIMS evaluations etc. Members of thisforumsuch as rickair7777, HSLD, Freightdawg, Diver Driver and a host of others know what I've been through. Becoming a pilot is and has always been a childhood/personal dream & goal of mine. I have the unwavering support of a former HIMS Coordinator for a major airline and he is also a retired 737-8 Captain.

I said all of that to ask this: What are the typical and average pay rate of a contract corporate pilot and where should I search for such jobs? I prefer to live & work in the southeastern part of the US.
