Have you ever seen the aftermath of a wildfire? It doesn't burn in a straight line, nor does it burn 100% of the trees and grass. It's splotchy. It burns in waves and changes directions with the winds.

And that's how this virus will spread without intervention. COVID-19 hotspots will travel in waves across the country, hitting and re-hitting the same towns over again. Skipping regions completely only to double back the next season. The idea that "everyone will eventually be infected" will take years. What you think is faster will be much slower, and much more deadly. There's not a single reputable expert on the planet that will advocate for the 'let it ride' zero intervention approach.
How can you chide him for not using evidence and then post this? In fact how can you post this thread at all? You have given no evidence other than some suicide rates. Why is your conjecture correct and his incorrect?

They will never admit they might have gotten it wrong. That would be career/political suicide.

As will the ensuing recession And hyperinflation, unless the politicians can find someone to scapegoat. That’s how the progressive (for its day) Weimar Republic eventually gave way to Hitler I believe.

It didn't help when Japanese-Americans hid shot down Zero pilot on Dec. 7.

Was that the guy who crashed on a remote island which didn't have radio comms with Oahu? If so, the locals didn't know there was a war on until a couple days later.

That would be the way I'd tell it when I saw the M.P.'s.

What is your personal death threshold for action?
It's a global viral pandemic, the likes of which are extremely rare and this one doesn't even have a high fatality rate. It is a viral pandemic which means people are going to die. I've already accepted that.

And no one I know said just let it ride with zero intervention. Open it all up with simple, common sense precautions like face masks and hand washing.

That's just simply the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You are no longer about "getting back to work" or "lifting the lockdown." No, you're a degenerate gambler who wants to let it ride.

Even the smallest of measures to slow the virus are too much for you. A liberal plot to implement a tyrannical new world order, or a bunch of pussies wringing their hands. Let's review:
  • Mitigation of spreading (Masks, Hygiene, Prohibiting large crowds) = NANNY STATE TYRANNY
  • Robust, fast, and wide-spread testing = MY TAX DOLLARS WASTED
  • Contact tracing to intervene asymptomatic spread = BIG BROTHER WATCHING MY EVERY MOVE
  • Isolating the sick and exposed = UNLAWFUL IMPRISONMENT
I've come to the conclusion that you all want to roll the dice, and you'll keep rolling no matter how many times you lose. It's textbook degenerate gambling.

You're desperate to save the industry, but these actions will only make it worse. Lift the lock down- great. Rescind every law - you got it. Let me make it clear: If people are sick and dying around the country, then they will not fly. It's as simple as that.

The shelter-in-place orders were put in place to flatten the curve and give the country time to spool up mitigation efforts. And we've spent the last 8 weeks having studies on whether or not injecting Drano is a possible cure. If you want to protest - protest that. There is very little waiting for us on the backside of this lock down to help us through the next phase.

Letting the house burn itself out is not a strategy. It's a gamble.
Believe whatever they tell you eh? Enjoy the economic depression and denial.

Yes Im sure you'll be concerned with the vast minority of vulnerable when you're furloughed. Quarantining the old/sick/obese never made any sense. I get that about right?
