According to the above article, there is no longer a consensus on that Plan B.

Yeah, I was referring to the industry in general.

Plan B may look like Chapter 7 liquidation for some airlines. Very little international travel. Domestic US continue at these rates of today, Major airlines would look much like airlines of the 1960s, just a shell. And years and years before recovery to anywhere near normal of today, maybe by 2040.

Do I think that bad is likely? No.

Yeah but for the network carriers it does not matter what the US does. It only matters what other countries do. If they keep saying no US citizens the network carriers are going to fail.

The international tourist trade goes both ways.

And indeed, they MAY pull it off. There is a first time for everything - but anything less than four years WOULD BE the first time. But even when it is, you have to convince enough people to take it to get the “critical mass” necessary for herd immunity.

Exclusive: Two-thirds of Americans say they won't get COVID-19 vaccine when it's first available, USA TODAY/Suffolk Poll shows

1:47 Two-thirds of U.S. voters say they won't try to get a coronavirus vaccine as soon as it becomes available, and one in four say they don't want to ever get it, according to a new USA TODAY/Suffolk Poll released the same week that the number of COVID-19 cases surpassed 6 million.

“I don’t plan on being anyone’s guinea pig,” said Ebony Dew, an independent from Capitol Heights, Maryland. “I don’t plan on getting it at all.”
And anyone who thinks that can be done by the police power of the state is as insane as the tinfoil beanie paranoids who won’t take any vaccine, and trying to force them that way would only make them more paranoid in any event.

I don't see the issue, there will be plenty of front-line health care workers, plus folks in certain other jobs who will get it by mandate. Then there will be about 100M normal people in the US lined up around the block, who won't be able to get it fast enough.

After a few months there will be a very large (approx. 100M) phase-4 group. Other people will then get on the bandwagon as time passes, and also as certain activities (jobs, school, etc) mandate vaccination to get in the front door.

Where it could go wrong is if there are side-effects in phase-4 (or the media manufacturers side-effects). Mitigation there is multiple vaccines.

A vaccine will not make covid itself vanish, but it will be the inflection point in the recovery. It will generate a lot of optimism and activity and eventually those hiding under their beds will start feeling left out.
