150,000 Americans Dead

Humans are self-interested creatures.
COVID outcomes should absolutely drive home the fact that we need to be self-interested in our personal health because it can impact severity and outcome of acute disease. That doesn't mean you need to be an elite Ironman athlete...but most US adults could stand to lose 5-10lb, walk at least 20 minutes a day, cut out excessive sugar/sodium, and eat less fast and processed foods.
If you smoke, are 50lb overweight, have high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and don't do ANY physical exertion you don't really fit the definition of "otherwise healthy".

Yes that’s the point. This way you can fix all the other cars with this issue before they also turn to an engine fire. You can’t fix the issue for the next vehicle if you don’t identify the true problem.

If we're actually going to "follow the science" and "follow the facts", we need to have an honest conversation about how we got "here".
You and WutGate think we got here due to malfeasance by the Trump Administration. Okay, cool, perhaps that's part of it...but it doesn't begin and end there. We have to consider culture, politics, geography, and a bazillion other factors...and a decent part of that equation is that we have a lazy, unhealthy population with zero incentive to make themselves healthier.
We're here now; we've got to cancel the Master Warning, run the checklist and get the plane on the ground...but at the same time we're working the problem we notify Dispatch who brings Maintenance Control into the loop and they begin trying to figure out the "why", and after the conclusion of the event a team decides on "why" figures out how to prevent it from happening again.
But this isn't an emergency in an aircraft, its a pandemic...
We also MUST look at the demographics of who is hospitalized, in the ICU, and dying from COVID and glean info about that for now and learn lessons from that for the future...but I suppose that requires a metaphor best left for a different post.
Are you saying they should die because they’re fat?
Calling a spade a spade and identifying casual factors to poor outcomes isn't victim shaming.

They're using it as justification for their sociopathic ideas and behavior. And these fools won't care until COVID comes home and kills someone close to them.

Such a commission will resemble monkeys fornicating a football inside a burning dumpster, carried onboard a slow-motion train wreck.... by comparison there was very little partisan politics (aside from fringe loonies) associated with 9/11 and the immediate aftermath.

We can walk and chew gum at the same time though, right?

But you’re essentially blaming the victims for what happened to them. You should be blaming China, not your fellow citizens. It’s not being fat that we’re guilty of, it’s not taking this seriously from the beginning. As far as your political jab, I honestly believe that nobody knows what would have happened had Trump not been at the helm, under Biden we might have had 2,000,000 dead like Trump said. What we do know however is that Trump did not lead, all he did was preside over the response that would have happened anyways with or without him. The issue is he left the states to do whatever. I’m not saying he should have turned himself into an emperor, just saying he failed to make sure the whole country was on the same page. He turned into into right vs left and the election. That’s really why he lost. Anyways back to the issue...

But that's exactly what others were saying. "Anyone who dies from COVID must deserve it because of their own negligence. And that absolves me of any responsibility for my inaction with COVID mitigation."
They're using it as justification for their sociopathic ideas and behavior. And these fools won't care until COVID comes home and kills someone close to them.

Got it. Unless we all have equal outcomes, it isn’t fair...
