As far as work goes, I wear it where my company tells me to wear it because I am aware that pilots are very dispensable right now and I’d like to keep receiving a paycheck.

I got caught up in what I was doing and forgot to take mine off during preflight before the first leg of a trip last week. It is definitely a CRM issue as I found that my FO couldn't hear me with the mask on. If we were both wearing them during the preflight briefing then we would have been yelling at each other nonstop, or maybe I'm just hard of hearing.

On a side note, I went to the tire department at Costco a few days ago and just straight up could not understand the girl standing behind the plexiglass talking thru her mask. Pretty sure she couldn't hear me either and I ended up going somewhere else to buy tires. I understand the need for safety but if I cannot easily conduct a business transaction then I'm out.

That's all well and great until someone has a RTO and careens off the runway. Have fun explaining an unintelligible takeoff briefing to the NTSB.

"oh but I was wearing my mask for everyone else's safety..."

I don’t know what your company policy is but mine says door open mask on. Door closed mask off. Close the door, do the briefing, open the door back up. Not nearly as big of a deal as you are making it out to be.

Or just leave it closed if that is the policy...problem solved!
