Wearing masks on the FD
Just had an updated policy change that while we are on the aircraft..... in the cockpit with the FD door open, we are required to wear masks.
So the question is, when has yours been coming off? Obviously seems like this is just for public perception because it makes no difference taking it off when it's closed and flying...

If any of the pax bring their kids to visit the cockpit (yes still happens), they're probably not the ones worried about whether I wear a mask up there anyway.

That has been my policy. Masks on when in view of the public. Only exception really is walking to my car or similarly outside away from anyone.

Since I sit in the right seat of an RJ I usually keep my mask on during boarding in an attempt to “set a good example” for the pax since they can see me as they board due to the entryway angle. Probably not worth much but have heard of incidents where pax took off masks and talked back to FAs claiming they saw the pilots not wearing masks. Mask off for preflt briefing or talking on radio though, difficult to hear a briefing through a mask over all the fans.

I agree. Right now it’s just another way for us to let the flight attendants know that we’ve got their backs. In the bus people look in on us all the time, it’s my opinion that if the door is open the mask is on. We want our passengers to feel confident that enough is being done to book with us again and again until we all get through this. It’s an opportunity to lead by example. I totally dislike having to wear a mask, but it’s a small inconvenience and one worth enduring.

Just to be clear, this isn't a "mah rights!" issue. I wear the mask just about everywhere else.

Same here. I comply with the requirement at all times where it’s necessary. Outside of that I choose to remove it where it’s my discretion.

At no time is it on while on the airplane... Had a dispatch JS'er doing observation flights recently. He wore it at all times.. His prerogative. If he would have had an issue, he could have caught the next flight.
