Not disagreeing in principle and what you wrote has been the guidance pretty much from early on in this pandemic. However, the new variants appear to be quite significantly more contagious and and to more relatively young and healthy people ending up in hospital. Here in Europe the "British variant" (B1.1.7) is now dominant and not have case numbers been rising but also ICU bed occupancy. So much so that the association of intensive care and emergency medical care doctors in Germany are urging the government to implement a hard lock down in order to stop the trend and prevent overload. So since this British variant is more transmissible it may not take 15 minute of close contact in an enclosed space to get infected.
I'm not sure this is a bad thing anymore. Perhaps the cowardly, dysfunctional Europeans can continue to hide in their basements while making things worse. Perhaps the world is better off this way? Like, maybe Europeans can just stay locked down forever?!?
Keep wearing those masks...they don't work. Neither do lockdowns...but please, keep this nonsense up a few more years.
All that lunacy the Germans have been engaged in for over a year has no scientific foundation and doesn’t work

Germans are idiots. I'm sorry Europe is lead by such a grossly inept, arrogant group of jerks. The continent that has been locked down has the most COVID. Jeesh, shocker.

And no one says a word, even though a blind man could see that the places that mandate them the most aren’t even slightly better off then the places that let free people breathe, they just nod obediently and add more layers while walking alone in the park.
And lockdowns are such obvious nonsense we shouldn’t even have to point it out.

Not that it makes any of what they say ok but......
These public figures(fauXi, walensky, etc) are never going to come out and say "we're good." They are only, ever, going to make ambiguous or outright overly safe statements. The reason? because some idiot with a blue check is going to sue them(and whatever organization they are part of) in 5 years because some loved one died of "covid" in 2023 when FauXi said it was safe. That or they will plaster a bunch of their statements on social media along with an article from some backwater town or city that had a small spike with some deaths and blame them for it, calling for their resignation. MSM will roll with it in order to garner a few thousand views or likes.
Our country is currently ruled by social media and MSM. To think otherwise is foolish.

It’s almost funny at this point. It’s said repeatedly without an ounce of irony- the masks work, they are very effective.

What’s crazy to me is that the CDC’s own study showed less than 2% per day increase in covid cases per day over 100 days in counties that had mandates vs those that didn’t. 2%! And the conclusion was still, “masks are so important, pls wear masks!”
Like, I get it, they “can” help. But stop selling them like the end all be all.

Case Fatality Ratio vs. Infection Fatality Ratio.
CDC currently estimates 4.6 actual infections for every known confirmed positive case; this is due to a multitude of reasons including lack of testing early in the pandemic as well as asymptomatic/VERY mildly symptomatic disease.
I think it is not unreasonable to assume that 4.6:1 ratio holds globally, if isn't a bit low.
EDIT: curious where you get 3.5% from; the WHO COVID Dashboard https://covid19.who.int/ shows a CFR of 2.17%.

The most recent iFR estimate for COVID worldwide is 0.15%.
The survival rate is 99.85%.
