Thumbs up CEO says no vax mandate at DAL

As Southwest Airlines faces an internal crisis, Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said his company will not be enforcing a vaccine mandate.

Context is important.
He doesn’t have to as 90% is already vaccinated and he expects another 5% in the next month.
Its just virtue signaling for the headbangers on the Right.

The Delta head revealed on "The Claman Countdown" that the company has reached a more than 90% vaccination rate and expects it to rise another 5% within the next month without a mandate in place.

"The reason the mandate was put in by president, I believe, was because they wanted to make sure companies had a plan to get their employees vaccinated," he said. "A month before the president came out with the mandate, we had already announced our plan to get all of our people vaccinated. And the good news is the plan is working."

I doubt any airlines (or other large corps) are making vaccine decisions based on "what's right".

Whichever way they blow on the issue, they're calculating costs, hassles, operational disruption, liability, potential employee turnover, media coverage, and public opinion. That applies regardless of their position: pre-mandate mandate, mandate defiance, mandate compliance. Might vary between companies by their customer and employee demographics.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Biden’s pronouncement was a bluff, meant to provide cover for companies proposing their own mandates. If OSHA actually does put out a temporary emergency standard it will be immediately suspended by the courts pending litigation. And the pandemic will be long over before it is ever adjudicated, especially with all the other covid associated litigation already in the pipeline.

It's more a recognition that a mandate in this environment is counterproductive. All it does is create more suspicion, doubt, and resistance.

Most people in this country don't like draconian statism. Apparently, you do.

To be completely honest....One way to get many Americans to NOT to do something, is to try and force or coerce them into doing it. I highly suspect that a lot of people refusing to take the vax are doing so largely because they resent the government (specifically Biden) telling them that they MUST. Biden & Co know this which is why the issue has now become about control, and not about health. If they had simply said "we strongly encourage everyone to get the vax" it would have become a non-issue and most people probably would have. But instead they tried to ram it down everyone's throats, thus the pushback. And lots of good people and businesses caught in the middle.

One commentator I saw this morning hit the nail on the head when he said this has moved out of the realm of public health and instead they are in the middle of a culture war trying to decide policy which never works out so well. This was of course by design.

Two years ago I would have agreed. Now I've seen 90% of my coworkers roll over and be coerced.

Sorry, it's the opposite. The mandate came after everyone had the chance to get the vaccine (for any of the 50 states) AND several months passed. There was no convincing them. They didn't want it, period. If they did, they would have taken it. But I agree with you that coercing them makes them even more angry and POed. In the end though, I think most nearly all will take it over threat of losing their job.
