Also the primary issue is that the ME3 receive huge government subsidies, not that they fly between Athens and JFK.

One could argue that KAL was the original Plan A. They got anti-trust immunity 15 years ago and were on the path to JV way before the merger with Northwest or the failed bid to tie up with JAL. It went sideways for quite some time obviously.

It went sideways because KAL felt they should do all the flying across the Pacific. Since we make a lot more money when we use our own metal Delta management had a different concept in mind. What changed is KAL made a disastrous financial decision and now needs serious help.
We face the same issue on division of flying with China.

yeah....well that and the fact they were pranging an airplane once a quarter.

I recall Dave Greenberg was recruited by them to try and alter the crew dynamics leading to a lot of the operational compromises.

That sounds about right. I just hope we secure decent scope protections for that JV.

Well if we bail them out, again, after singlehandedly saving their airline, we should get WAY more than 50% which is really 46% as our "half". We should get over 50% ESK's and over 50% BH's.

There's just something magical about non US airlines though. They just do everything better.

Who knew that ships could sink a airline. We will see how much leverage that provides us.

I'm not aware of the financial decision that KAL made. Could you please enlighten those of us who do not know?

I've also heard KAL at one time demanded all Pacific flying and that is why we were not in such a close relationship.

Thanks!
