Let me explain:

Pilots at Delta are much more informed about their contractual limits and other work rules than Delta FAs. That alone keeps Delta a bit more on their toes with you guys then the flight attendants.

It's like having a speed limit on a highway. If you know there's cops all along the road you don't speed because you don't want a ticket. If you know there are no cops you try to push the envelope and try to get away with things you wouldn't otherwise do.
When I hear an FA complain about getting used and abused (as they often seem to be) I tell them they need a better union. I usually get a blank stare and "we don't have a union". I can't help but wonder why.

Bastian's infatuation with big data, control, and micromanagement--combined with his penny pinching (underpaid/undertrained/overworked technicians in skeds and tracking) amounts to a betrayal of the passengers and employees. You can see it in the passengers' eyes. They feel deeply betrayed.

He has failed to give us the tools to do our jobs, while lining his pockets through buybacks and dividends. Then he expects us to pick up the slack.

He's done.

I think the tide is slowly turning. As more and more of the old Delta guard retires, the one that still thinks we're all a family, the odds of people finally being fed up increases. This new generation of millenials is usually anti-union for their first year at Delta and after they get bent over by the company a few times they change their mind.

No, it won't make IROPS disappear but it will make management accountable for more things which will ultimately mean they won't be able to cut as many corners as they're used to.

He has been CEO for 11 months. The items you mention were all in place before he became CEO.

So why were they so completely screwed up on the pilot side? Still are today in fact.

How many pilot crews slept in hotel lobbys or in the lounge as their "legal rest period"?

How many pilot crews had 20+ hour duty days?

How many pilot crews had 30+ hour duty days?

While it may be screwed up on the pilot side...it's about 5 levels beyond that on the FA side. There's ZERO accountability.

We can't have those duty days because of FARs. If it were legal the company would expect it from us.

Here's an example of what I mean. These people will "volunteer" to go to work for free because it's family. How many pilots would volunteer to go work a trip for free?

And if you had contractual limits lower then that how many would bend over and take it from the company because they fear retaliation?

FAs have "work rule" limits of 15 hours yet many are too afraid to exercise that option or are guilted into going above that when they call scheduling. Just having a contract empowers you and because of that the company has different expectations.
