Assuming the CR update is close to reality this could qualify as MOAB?

A couple of questions on timing:

1. If the conversion window indeed is a whole year when would the NYC and CVG M88 cats be actually closed?

2. DTW 744 has got to close right on 31 Dec 2017, since all remaining a/c will be parked in DEC?

How come results aren't out yet?

Sorry, couldn't resist! Don't have an answer to your question....

Don't know the answer to number one, though I assume it could be anytime in the 365 days. I would certainly think the NYC 88 will linger late into the fall, the CVG 88 could go very quickly.

The answer to the second question is no, the category doesn't have to close when the aircraft are parked. Looking at it in reverse, several years ago the 717 category was actually up and going before the first airplane was delivered. Everyone got paid the reserve guarantee to sit at home. I'm sure the same will apply to the 744. The flying will be gone by the end of 2017, but that doesn't mean there won't be a few people in the category while they await training on the next aircraft.

If they close the category they have to pay the ALV to pilots waiting training. If they keep it open they only have to pay the reserve guarantee. I suspect they will choose the later.

Just curious, if a category doesn't exist, what ALV would they use? Of is there something in the contract spelling that out?

With 600+ retirements accounted for in this bid, I think this definitely qualifies as the MOAB. It's the bid everyone has been waiting years for. Results will be very interesting.

Very True. After a decade and a half a true MOAB. DAL folklore and Legend have mentioned a MOAB but other than "negative" MOABs it was always "the next bid."

So maybe CCR was wrong when they sang Someday never comes.😀

The category you are converted into.

Looks like over 1/3 of the 747 captains mandatorily retire in the next 2 years.

How many 747 captains are going to MD (bid) to the 777/350, then just ride the 747 until the end, and retire the day before they have to go to training on their new jet?

I wonder if that will influence how Crew Resources awards the bigger airplanes on this bid?

Thoughts? Vibes on where people are talking of going on the DTW744, CVG/NYCM88 fleets?

I don't think they will retire, I think they will ride the 744 til the end, then call in sick the day before training.
