I'm one of those junior DTW 330B guys waiting for training in AUG as well, so I am definitely watching and waiting. Curious, if MDed does the company forfeit our AUG training and just keep us in our current seat or newly awarded MD position? Or do they keep the original FEB AE results and still send us to 330 training only to retrain us again per this MOAB?

My guess would be they would just cancel our 330 training all together, but I didn't know if they are obligated by contract to honor the FEB AE first before proceeding with the MAY AE.

Just a quick note for any new guys, the iCrew function that shows how many people senior to you that have a bid in for an aircraft does not include people who have a displacement bid for that seat. Normally doesn't matter, but on this bid there will be a lot of displacements.

Once you go thru icrew and see xx number of people bid for that cat/base how can you see how many slots are available and if you might be able to get that award.

2012 positions posted. Good for everyone except the people who start 5/22 and later. They might be stuck in their initial positions for longer than normal if the next AE isn't until the fall.

The positions that are available are posted on the AE's. Take the iCrew numbers with a grain of salt. It will only show what people have actually entered in their bid as of now. That will change rapidly as the 18th approaches. It also doesn't account for displacements into a category that you want.

You can put qualifiers on your bid as well, like don't award unless 50% in category. Some one senior to you might have a qualifier but if you don't it is possible for you get it and they won't. This is also not reflected with the iCrew tool.

To show how misleading it can be when I just checked DTW 350A it shows only 195 people senior to me that have a bid in despite me being 12000+ seniority. I am not getting my hopes up :D

And it doesn't account for people on long term leave or have seat locks that can't be awarded the position. That feature is essentially worthless as is.

When I got awarded my last position, it was showing that there were a total of 45 pilots ahead of me.
It also doesn't take into account if any of those pilots have higher or lower preferences for other categories.
At best, it's just an estimate. Too many variables.

I think the information that is presented is 100% accurate.

But........it doesn't tell the whole picture. As I said, it doesn't include displacement bids. It doesn't tell you if someone has a bid in with a restriction, for example regular line only. It also doesn't tell you if someone has a bid in but is still on a seat lock.

For any given AE it's worthless. To look at trends over time, it's ok. I'm down to only 376 senior to me bidding ATL 777A!

I agree that watching the trend over time can be useful, but just one snapshot is pretty much useless. For example, on the last AE, I had 174 people senior to me bidding the position, I was ultimately awarded on said AE. Having watched it over the previous 3 or 4 AEs, it had been holding steady at ~174, but the seniority of those getting awarded the position kept getting more and more junior. Having watched that, I was fairly confident that I would it, even with 174 senior to me bidding. However, the fact that it doesn't show displacements will really throw a wrench into this AE.

Looks like those of us under a freeze just had another year added -- so we've got that going for us.

As for those who sit senior FO....as a new hire SO I flew with FOs who could have been captains..with good seniority in the base. Being a newbie and not understanding the thought process, I asked a captain about why these FOs were doing what they were doing?

His answer didn't make a lot of sense at the time, but 30 years on I get it completely....he told me, 'if you stay in the copilot seat long enough, it wont matter to you what else you can hold, mentally that's what you will permanently become, an FO.....and that's where you will retire.'

Over the last few years I have flown with a lot of senior FOs, and what that Captain told me as a new hire.....now makes a lot of sense.

Some senior 777 FOs are making more $$ than junior 777 CAs. Need to add that to the equation as well; probably top 10% of every category has that ability if they are working the system properly.
