This AE covers the next year's planned vacancies -- except for a "small" (read C-Series) bid in the Fall. So unless you're going to be VD'd or MD'd, those of us under a freeze cannot partake.

Ok so I follow you on not being able to bid anything else on this AE, but where are you getting the extra year from? Do our seat locks not expire a year from our hire date?

I think it is smart for Jr guys to bid the 88A..it will open up opportunities down the road that could be yuuuuge like BobZ mentioned a few pages back.

I bet ATL 88a doesn't get filled. I can hold it, live in ATL, I LOVE money, and have 0 intention of bidding 88a.

It's not like its that horrible. Our reserve system here although not perfect is worlds better than other companies out there. The trip quality isn't any worse than the 717.

Is being the plug on the 777b that bad? Do you still mostly not get called out?
Thanks

I think what he's saying is if there are no AE's of significance for another year after this one, it's a virtual extension of seat lock. If you don't have the chance to bid out of category, you're essentially stuck.

I assume the slots are for the displaced captains and they will not award anyone junior to 2016 hire date because it would be pointless.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

The 90s will still be in ATL past 2020 (retirement date is TBD for that airplane). The 90 is a much better airplane too (better TRs, engine protection) so it could be argued that the 88 category will get better as the worst airplanes are going away and the better airplanes are staying.

It seems like every 88 pilot I talk too tells me how great the machine is to fly. I love hearing that because it keeps those widebody slots open for me!:D

We need some sort of self justification for flying it! Yes, it's fun to fly. Yes, it is severely showing its age. Yes, I'm thrilled to be getting MDd off of it. No, the 90 is not a better flying airplane. Better brakes and reversers, everything else about it I prefer the 88.
