iPads?

It's a moot point since Jeppesen is dropping windows support. I myself hate apple, but I can't deny that the iPad is a better EFB, than the Surface Pro.
What it boils down to, is several want the company to buy them a much more expensive Surface Pro every few years, when the cheaper iPad can do what the company wants better.

Is some of it lack of familiarity with the Surface? Maybe... But many of the quirks are just related to Windows and the Surface.

idk. I must lead a charmed life, havnt had any show stoppers using the company surface.
my personal tablet is an old gen1 surface and its been beat up pretty good and still seems to work fine for what I use a computer to do....email, amazon, news, dalweb, and apc amusement.

I'm not denying the iPad may be the best solution. When evaluating the total cost of the EFB, Delta has to include the cost of hardware, training and support. I suspect this formula would heavily favor the iPad. The decision gets even easier if Jeppesen abandons Windows. It is probably a good decision for Jeppesen, as it lets them focus resources on one platform instead of two.

If you lost both engines, and lost all electrical in hard IMC, I'm pretty confident the current version of foreflight could get you to safety. If Sully had it, he would have likely made it back to LGA. When you have such a low cost ability to improve safety, even in an astronomically rare situation, it should be a very quick decision to switch to it.

Turn towards your EFB while hand-flying and start crunching numbers for a 7000' runway. APU starting to spin up, engine generators about to go offline, RAT status TBD, hydraulics, flight controls and brake considerations to be run through foreflight in the next 180 seconds.
Sounds like a plan.
