Can't you just see marketing do that? I know the planned layout is 197 but you'd have to assume there's a lav or 2 at 3L/R and maybe for our FA friends somewhere to put away the trash (see the 32K) in the space-flex galleys.
High value customers love the 757 because we board and deplane from 2L. I hoped we might work that out on the A321. I guess it's not a option.

I've had gate agents try to do it thinking it was a 75

The door we have is capable of it, but our seating configuration doesn’t allow for it.

And the jetbridge gets too close to the engine.

It's doable, but the risk is increased. AA has some of their gate agents trained to park at L2 on theirs that have the appropriate cabin config.

...or the gate agent extends the jet bridge too far trying to reach that elusive A321 L2 door, hyper-extending the air-conditioning tubes, and then, realizing her mistake as I try to wave her off, retracts back amidst a cloud of shattering fiberglass and crumpling aluminum, causing a 45 minute arrival gate re-shuffle. oops!

Hell it was close to heaven when the old configurations had no coach seats ahead of 2L.

New 321s might not have 2 and 3 doors.

I'm on the bus, and the 321 is a great plane. But having a 2L door that you still can't use is frustrating indeed, especially when 192 pax take forever to deplane.

Airbus should have spent a little more time in the design phase and made the 2L door the default boarding door like the 757. That is a huge difference in the boarding and unloading experience, not to mention catering, cabin service etc

That's ridiculous. I could see them doing it on a 737-900, since that's the true 757 replacement.
