No one is outnumbered, you can post as much as you want. I am however, unconvinced that this is bad but as always will keep an open mind.
What I am seeing is a lot of negative speculation, which is fine, but I am not even close to conceding this is bad.
As far as more SCs go the last few times I sat reserve I was given SC every single day I was on call - unsurprisingly this changed soon after guys were found to be out of position for SC.
And if you do stand 7 SCs you are on call 21 hours less. That is almost 2 full days less of 12 hour SC per month. That is good.

Is that actually how it is going to play out, though? I kind of doubt it, as I’m already put on short call to the max each month on reserve and that has never exceeded 5. With a 9 hour window, it would have been the same, as there was nothing more they could do.

Worse case scenario - now 7*9= 63 hours of SC per month.
Worse case scenario -previous. 7*12= 84 hours of SC per month.
Now we can all speculate all kind of scenarios but are monthly maximum time of sitting SC has just gone down by 25%.

The data shows 95% of utilization occurs within the first 9 hours. CS routinely releases SC pilots at the 10 hour mark already. Can you fill in the blanks between 3 x 12hr and 5 x 9hr? I don't see it.
If you add coverage that captures the missing 5%, you go from averaging 5 SC per month to 5.25 per month or 3 SC per year. Your time on a short leash is still substantially reduced and for commuters, there are more nights at home, even if they add the extra 3 SC over the entire year.
I'm guessing the beer on your last layover was too cold, too free and served by a waitress who was too pretty. Can we just take the W and be happy?

Even if the likelihood of getting assigned a trip goes down after the 9th hour, it certainly doesnt absolve you of the SC obligation.
The new practice eliminates my leash 3 hours early. Thats 3 hours less of sitting in good cell coverage, 3 hours earlier I get to commute home or exit my 2 hr radius of base, 3 hours sooner I can enjoy a football game without my kiddie straw, 3 hours less I have to drive around with a suitcase in my trunk.
Everything isn't win-lose.
Enjoy a good thing!

It is 100% to get reserves available earlier in the day. Example:
Day 1 current system: SC from 10am to 10PM. Not used.
Day 2: SC 8AM to 8PM.
Day 1 New System: SC from 10am to 7PM. Not used.
Day 2: SC: 5AM to 2PM.
It shifts our availability which is especially great for covering early reports during IROPS, overnight sickouts, etc.
I'm not suggesting this is a BAD thing. In fact, it increases operational reliability. If it allows guys to get home earlier thats a plus.
