Non-revs board with their assigned zone

If I ask the agent and they approve, it’s not “sneaking” on. Also, this FOM passage was penned prior to the boarding group change. “Main Cabin 1” or whatever the new group is called is much larger than the old Zone 1. I used to try to board at the end of Zone 1. If you try to board at the end of Main Cabin 1, you’ll likely be swarmed by Main 2 when they hang around at the end of the Main 1 line. Your other option is to try to get to the front of your assigned group, but you increase the likelihood of annoying the passengers since you can’t really give any ground.

Since I wasn’t issued a reflective vest by the company, I don’t exit the jet bridge when I am not operating the flight. If my bag doesn’t have a space in the bin, it’s getting checked. I’d rather get the agent to let me down than check a bag, even if it means stepping on an FOM provision that is in need of an update.

Checking with the agent to make sure you are on the list is always a good idea. I have been left more than once.

When gate agents start following seat assignment policy we can discuss boarding in our assigned zone.
If you are deadheading you will have PS seat assignment with at least Zone 1 boarding. Sounds like you chose to delay boarding hoping for an upgrade. That’s a different situation than disregarding company policy and boarding with Premium or Sky when you are Zone 1. Clearly the rules don’t apply to you.

My point is that the agent disregarded company policy regarding DH seating priority. I could have boarded with Zone 1, but then I would have been seated in Zone 1. I could have also interrupted her during boarding to ask that she fix it. There were enough C+ seats, so I waited till the bitter end removing any possibility she could claim she was waiting for a last minute misconnect to put me in 1st Class. She denied my existence on the upgrade list that was proudly on display for the entire gate area to see.

Given the systemic disregard for DH seating priority, I am sympathetic to those on a DH who either ask or attempt to board early. We are routinely denied not only the proper seat, but the boarding priority that comes with it. By boarding early, we are at least taking back the boarding priority we should be afforded if given the proper seat assignment to begin with. DH rant over.

“Zone 1” no longer exists. If you aren’t seated in First or C+, how can you comply with the FOM provision you quote?

I've run into this exact problem many times recently. I've seen S4's given comfort plus aisles and windows while I'm stuck in middle economy. The gate agent claimed I wasn't on the comfort plus upgrade list, but TravelNet and monitor clearly showed I was on it. When nonrevs get comfort plus ahead of DHs, we've got a problem.

You need to submit a FCR each time requesting a reply. When the agents supervisors get tired of having to respond you will see it fixed.

I was non rev to Europe last week from jfk. I was S2 priority. I was the first non rev in “seniority” order to not get Delta One. So close! For grins, I grabbed the iPad after boarding to look on travelnet and see where I lined up. Looked at the cleared list and saw an S4 buddy pass had been assigned row 1. Not deadhead, so different situation I know, but I don’t think they follow the order for non revs either. How does a buddy pass, and more junior hire date get my spot on the list for First?

There is a tool when non revenue traveling to file a complaint on Delta net.

Probably a no show. Wait until D-10 and then stuff the rest of the non-revs in any available seat.
