Depends on the guy. With the DC Pro-X on both ears, you can hear “loud talkers” just fine, and even most “normal talkers.” With “low talkers” you might have to slip the inboard ear off.

On a plane without an intercom, normally, I would have the inboard ear off on the ground and in flight up to 10k. Once we accelerate past 250 KIAS, I’d cover both ears. Most guys tend to talk louder at that point anyway, as things get louder as IAS increases.

On a side note, it’s always been amazing to me that we don’t have intercoms in all fleets at the airline. It’s like there was this old-school mentality that, “Intercoms are for prop planes. We’re in a jet now! They’re so quiet you don’t need an intercom.” But that’s BS. They’re still loud with wind noise, if not engine noise. Once you fly a fleet that uses the intercom, you’ll never want to go back. JMHO.

Anyone know if any of the DL 319/320/321 have the powered 5 pin connectors? I tried one airplane and it was NOT powered. Read somewhere that NWA saved a nickle buying them unpowered

Bought some DC Pro X off EBay as new. Kinda 'meh on them.

You heard correctly, our Airbuses don’t have the powered connectors. Even on our new A321s, so it’s not just a NW thing.

Thank you

Other airlines have them. Wonder if there is a way to rig power to the headset via an adapter

Default Telex 850 no bueno

Hey guys, late to the conversation but the Telex 850 ANR in no good on 73 fleet at DAL. On the older 800’s it cant transmit with the amp in the aircraft and is unusable. You’ll end up wearing the clamp. 700’s and 900’s work great.

Anyone want a telex 850 with 2 trips on it.......

Yea, there's a scattering of aircraft around all fleets like that. The 850 needs 5 volts from the mic line (mic bias voltage). Without it, it won't work. I've had some success in just turning the ANR switch off (the tiny switch is on the top of one of the ear pads), but it doesn't work in all cases.

I was never able to figure out if its intentional, a fault, a problem in the audio panel or what. Gave up and switched back to using the 750 ship set.

Are there any headsets which only work on certain airframes that I should avoid, or do all the big manufacturer headsets work on all our planes?

I carry dc pro x for working, bose qc35's for commuting, and apple ipods for running and exercising. Of course I bought all these headphones when we as a company were making $5 billion per year and I had extra money.

LoL. I'm on the 717 and trying to decide on a headset. The one ear uncovered gets on my nerves though..

I purchased the dc pro x2 about a month ago. My personal piece of mind was well worth the money. Love them so far on the 320
