What time are the slots at? Narita at a good time is better than Haneda at some weird time making connections impossible in the US. Narita is also closer/quicker to get to than Haneda for millions of people living in northern Tokyo/Kanto. I don’t get the hate for Narita.

My guess is that some the NRT flights will remain as there is probably enough market to serve Tokyo with more than one daily flight....

While we (nor our JV/codeshare partners) don't do long haul intl out of SJC, I do know that Hainan flies to/from PEK with a 787 and ANA flies to/from NRT with a 787 and BA does LHR with a 787. Hmmmmm....I see a trend. 🤔

The slots are all good daytime slots. The Japanese government is currently encouraging the use of Haneda for Premium business routes and the use of Narita for leisure routes and by low-cost carriers. Delta HVCs(Who provide higher yield and the majority of our revenue strongly prefer Haneda, an airport not only much closer to downtown but more modern facilities. Narita is in the sticks. 18 minute drive to downtown from Haneda, 53 mins to Narita.

Narita could remain if there is enough leisure customers providing enough yield. Especially if there is enough demand to continue to MNL or SIN. I doubt it though. Seems more efficient to just add more capacity to Seoul until there is enough demand or the right aircraft(330NEO/797?) to warrant a direct flight from the USA.

People don’t drive to the airport in Tokyo. From Ueno (one of the biggest train stations in the world in one of the biggest cities in the world) to Narita is 45 minutes. To Haneda is 40 minutes with a walking transfer. Look it up.

From a leisure travel standpoint I see where you are coming from and completely agree. When it comes to Business travelers, Delta HVCs in particular, Haneda is much more convenient, provided the time slots are daytime.
