I let the capt come up with a game plan (because that’s his job), and I help execute. If he asks my input or thoughts on something I gladly deliver.

“Adapting”..... personality, flying techniques, political beliefs, whatever. I don’t do.

Couple of examples of some gem capt briefs.

1)I don’t like to use VNAV, it is stupid and no one should use it. Followed by 4 days of being “taught” how VNAV sucks.

-no. I was trained to use VNAV and I fly just fine using it, good day to you sir.

2)I want you to send for destination wx only at these certain times. That’s my “quirk”.

-no. I am going to get wx like I have the last 20 years, good day to you sir.

3)you can read in cruise but if you miss more than 2 radio calls, no more reading.

-thanks dad...good day to you sir.

Referencing my previous post. These are the type of situations that I will not adapt to.

I do agree that these weirdos are rare. For ever one WTF capt there are 10 great guys that are just there to do the job.
Flew with a CA the other day who had an FO that asked permission to shut down the APU after starting both engines. When he asked why he was asking and not just doing, fo said he got chewed out by a guy for not asking his permission to shut it down, permission he doesn't need.

You know the old saying. One copilots weirdo is...well.....another copilots weirdo.

Two anecdotes about the two people who were put on my avoid list when I was an FO, to give you examples.

First guy was during TA1 rejection. He was the radar guy I referenced earlier. Griped about losing 30k+/year to van driver on way to hotel one night. Bro, know your audience...driver might not break 30k this year! Yelled—not an exaggeration—at me for not telling a controller we were direct NEUTO after deviating as he handed us off. (I later verified with ZTL that it makes life much easier by telling the next controller instead of the handing-off controller). And he wondered out loud why he never got selected for the LCA program. Gee, I wonder. Life is too short for me to deal with such asshattery.

Second guy was a psycho. In fact, he called himself that. (God bless you 88Bs who have flown with him!)
I could deal with his ego until he committed the sin for which the CPO called me. Let’s just say not everyone—everybody except one—knows that the word “homos” is not acceptable in corporate America, especially in front of some of our FAs. I’m not afraid of the CPO, but I’d rather not have to speak that office about a dumbass other than myself on my day off. Waste my time off, don’t expect to fly with me again.

The captain who introduced himself by expressing relief that he was not flying with a “military prick” did not make it to the list, although I did swap trips when his name popped up again. (I took his comment as a compliment, as the Guard is not real military...or at least it wasn’t at one time.

All that being, while most folks are great, yes, there are posterior cavities in every seat. Respect to all you FOs out there...I appreciate you protecting my certificate and my livelihood every trip. If you got hate in your heart, by all means, let it out!

Oh, and Klondike Bear, your [sic] rill fuh-knee!
Yeah....”Psycho” was a real piece of work. Something wrong upstairs with that guy. Nothing like getting trapped for 2 days while he shows you hundreds of pictures of aircraft scale models that he “engineered”. Shoot me.

In the summer of 2014 I was very junior reserve on the 88 in atl. I flew 5 trips in a row with dudes on the no fly list. Luckily the 6th trip was with an awesome guy.

Of those 5 the Hermanator was probably the easiest for me to get along with.
