Every additional year you work is your best retirement year that you are giving up. It also starts to increase health risks exponentially. While it would also increase the number of pilots able to take advantage of the disability program considering the increased chances of medical troubles, the overall impact to the pilot group as a whole is negative.

Oooo, math. Got any FACTUAL references to the above, or are you showing your opinion?

Sure, some pilots who are just reaching retirement age get a few more years potentially at the top, but everyone else has a lower return with worse seniority at every year than they would otherwise.


OK, this smells like 'Get out of MY seat old man.' If the age limit goes up, even people your age have an opportunity to benefit, if they're able and choose to do so. I'd like that chance.


On top of that, I recall that the average retirement age is around 62 at this time. A large number of pilots aren't even waiting until 65. Every pilot who doesn't go to even 65 (as well as any pilot that left at 65) would be taking a loss from a change with reduced seniority at the end of their career.


Please explain how continuing to fly and get paid, accrue company DC contributions, profit sharing and pass benefits is taking a loss. Really, try to explain that.


Even pilots that did continue to the new age would not really benefit except for the initial group as they would be losing seniority every year up until that point.

So what about you? Whose side are you on?
I'm on my side and ALL the Delta pilots here. After the financial rape a lot of us took in bankruptcy, any opportunity to make back some of our losses should be welcomed. If I'm healthy, have the opportunity, and still like what I'm doing, yes, I'd like to continue flying for Delta. I've earned that, and so have others.

You should all already be gone.

Relax, I kid. It is what it is, but still sucks. For all of us! You working for longer and we get to be FOs for 5 more years.

I’m planning to be self sufficient at 58 but if 67 becomes a thing I guess that’s just catastrophe insurance. The plan is 58, who knows what the reality will be.

If you do nothing on the side and only receive W2 income from Delta, the likely reality is that retirement in your early/mid-50s may be tough to accomplish, especially if you have to spend a few more years in the right seat.

If the past is indeed prologue, one would think that a Japanese nation dependent on the US is vastly more stable to US interests than Japanese who fend for themselves.

You are obviously on your side, but you haven't provided any evidence that you are on the side of "ALL the Delta pilots here." In fact, your response doesn't offer anything but a claim that I only want those senior to me gone and talk about how you want to stay. I guess the extra 5 years you already got wasn't an opportunity to make back "some of your losses." I am also going to ask you to kindly not post your responses inside my quote box if you want me to give further responses. You obviously know how to separate the boxes out. There are plenty of places to find the numbers regarding my "math," if you are going to be so pandering you can read the e-mails yourself.

And no, you have not earned a right to have the retirement age increased. You can argue facts all you want and I will engage in that discussion, but trying to make it something you earned? Now that many senior to you have been forced to retire doesn't suddenly make it your earned right. If you can come up with a response that isn't simply insults interspersed with entitlement then we can have a discussion on it.

I have no qualms with pilots staying as long as they are allowed to, I also don't have an eagerness to watch them retire. But I don't think increasing the retirement age is a good idea. It's not something I would ever want to take advantage of in the first place. Every extra year you fly is your best retirement year you are sacrificing. You will never get healthier. You also apparently don't understand how people who aren't going to 65 aren't going to get extra DC and profit sharing from an increase in the age. What they will get is less money for the remainder of the time they are around though.

Almost everyone of us would like to see the retirement age bumped up to 67, we just have differing opinions on the effective date.
