A little birdy told me a few weeks ago when SD was still here he chose to run the operation a little “fatter” on pilots for this issue we are seeing. When EB wanted all non fuel costs reduced by 1-2% this year, the higher ups on the 4th floor chose to reduce hiring to comply with that outlook. According to some of the people “in the know” we were averaging 500 GS’s a month last year this time this year we’ve been averaging between 6k-8k a month during the summer so far since May...

It's a fine balance. Would it be better to carry a 10% pilot surplus 360 days a year, so that we can be staffed appropriately for the 5 days if IROP a year? Obviously Delta doesn't think so. Probably a wiser business decision to just eat the loss on the IROP days than to waste money overstaffing the airline, but we obviously can't see all the data.
I'll just put my GSWC in and hangout at home :D |

Meanwhile in my category (atl7erb) we have had KLOAs offered every month this summer, and excellent reserve coverage. I’ve worked as little or as much as I’ve wanted and it’s been fantastic.

Coincidence or conspiracy?

But but but pilots know best!!!

Pilots that bid reserve want more pilots so they fly even less, senior pilots who whiteslip and greenslip want less pilots so they can make more money, the average pilot group is somewhere in the middle.

Thursday was the longest taxi I have had in JFK in 18 years and I am told ATL was groundstopped. I think this was a weather not a pilot event.

Trying to. I tried to go at 60, but my 60% FAE wasn't there. Green slips should be an anomaly. Not a way of life. It's all guys talk about. With conflict would make more sense. Time off is what the job used to be, you know, quality of life. Lip service now. We have nothing over those ladies of the night.
When I'm your age I have similar goals. I hope to have enough streams of income that a Greenslip isn't worth my time. But for now each Greenslip is a significant increase to my Net Worth not to mention the investment gains down the road. Sent from my SM-G975U1 using Tapatalk |

With conflict only makes sense for certain categories though. Pretty sure they wouldn't work in big ones... but I guess it is dependent on manning... |

I think you have a short memory. If you had a longer taxi than the days when they lined us up on 2 taxiways and 13R to depart 22R, then DAL is gonna get fined. I sat there 3+ hours numerous times.
Or you have been blessed. |
I was #40 for TO at JFK once back in my RJ days.
Ah, the good ol' pre-DOT3 days. |

So you'll make 380k this year? I call "fake news" |

That does seem high if its based off of GS alone. OE trip drop buddy bidders that overlap their entire sked with GS though could actually pull that off.

I believe it if you include profit sharing. Makes me feel veryyy lazy though.
|
I’ve skirted by this entire 4 day trip criss crossing the country without a single leg leaving late or getting in late. Felt like I was sauntering through with crap blowing up around me, but somehow unaffected.
But day 4 is upon us, and the brilliant minds planned day 4 to 8+ hours block in thunderstorm season (where if I hold and divert, I’m done wherever I land), and it’s ATL’s turn the through the gauntlet. It’s all about cutting out the pads, though. |
