Here’s the full report, not just the abstract. It’s not peer reviewed yet because it’s not even 2 weeks old. The Newsweek link was weak. I shouldn’t have included it because it’s obvious Newsweek never read the abstract or the full report.

My go to site for COVID-19 info is the CDC. Much less hyperbolic anything else out there.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html

This is where the “self quarantine “ for 14 day recommendation for China visitors came from. If that rec became effective for those fling to/from affected US states in a month or two, the airlines would effectively have to shut down due to lack of personnel.

I don’t expect that to happen though.

I think we all understood the intent of what he was saying. Just a few months ago United was advertising 1400+ hires for 2020. That’s not going to happen now.... so the classes are “not happening” if you want a more appropriate term.

Indeed. But what was the stated reason for not having classes scheduled beyond the 3/3 one? That's a rhetorical question. My point being that though I agree misinformation is not productive, we might just be arguing over a distinction without a difference on this one.

To the OP... Yes, Delta will furlough. After we buy Jetblue and staple JB pilots to the bottom of the list.

Well you're in luck! It seems a surprising number of pilots here are epidemiologists as well as experts on financial markets.

I'll pose another question: If these are indeed lelegitimate concerns that you have, why would you not seek answers from authorities on the subject? Ya know...doctors, epidemiologists, organizations like the CDC and WHO whose sole purpose is to coordinate research, disseminate information on and manage situations such as this?

Probably the same reason you don’t. It is too complex a subject to get an understanding of from the internet. (The internet is a good source to look up stray stand alone facts. It is a very poor source to try and derive knowledge and understanding from)
A question popped into my head in regards another post. My response was somewhat the same as if we were having a beer at the hotel bar. I didn’t mean to illicit an in depth response any more than I think he meant that something he had come across was all “we” needed to know. I added the qualifier of my lack of knowledge to convey that I didn’t consider my question as something insightful, and possibly even dumb to those who actually do know something about the subject.
