They already do, and always have... It's only the perception that has changed.

I guess thats my point. If the passengers are gone, how are we gonna get paid? You cant operate 5000+ flights a day without someone to pay the fuel bill.

My bet is that American Airline does it first, and the other airlines quietly follow.

Expect the press to freak out over it. Then move onto the next.....squirrel!
I don't think you're going to see that happen in situations like that because that's the only reason people will still buy tickets when stuff like this is going on. On top of that, the PR hit from refusing to waive changes for a "cold" with a high mortality rate would be significant. We always waive the change fee when major events happen.

I'm actually more impressed you're trying to liken this to a common cold, people who don't understand math trying to compare it to the flu is bad enough.

Oh, I'm completely freaked out about COVID-19, as is most everyone. When the #1 recommendation of most non-crazy doctors seems to be: 1. avoid large crowds and 2. Don't travel on airplanes/trains/buses, you know there's a real problem.

At the rate the hysteria is spreading through the zeitgeist, in the next couple of weeks you'll have people demanding to be "put on the next flight" when they see a single person blowing their nose in the jetbridge. Infinite waivers for sniffly noses will make the airline unflyable. Guess we'll see.

You know, it strikes me that Delta could start offering hand wipes and gel hand washing along with the free snacks. It's something, at least.

This is the fake news sensation of the month. Next month it will be something else. Spent a LOT of time in asia and the hygiene and public cleanliness is nothing like the rest of the world. Soon everyone will realise people are NOT dieing like in asia, media will move on to the next sensation of the month.

Maybe, but it's going to be longer than a month. Economic supply chains are vital. China has 162 cities with over one million people. I've noticed that flying to HKG. Plus they all have factories surrounding them. Making more than rubber dog poop.

With a 1% fatality rate and 50% of the US population getting exposed we will have 1,500,000.00 deaths. Those are conservative numbers. Again let’s hope for a spring burnout.
