Just so everyone knows, FedEx requires you to resign from DAL (or any other airline) in order to start working for them.

Why does this matter? If I take an approved LOA, it's not like I've been fired. So I don't understand how this "transition to furlough status" matters. Thanks.

Furlough pay and benefits, IMO.

And DL honors the letter, whereas United and others don't.

Furlough pay, possible medical from the union, maintain seniority and accrue longevity.

OK, I'll buy most all of those. I think the VLOA (*New* "Voluntary Leave of Absence" program, see
Deltanet > Flight Operations > Administration > Pilot Leaves) allows you to maintain seniority and accrue longevity as well, though. And there are some other benefits they threw into the package, FYI.

What should be a concern at Delta is we are working with a amendable contract. The company has the ability to rewrite the contract without going through the chapter 11 process. If this virus progresses as some predict, it may well be the company requesting a release to self help in the fall not the union.

Sailingfun, has your opinion changed? I don’t work for Delta, but I saw the memo somehow. It didn’t say the F-word, but it did say over staffed by 7000 this fall improving to 2500 by Fall of 2021. This post that I quoted is a couple months old. What is the latest outlook for you guys?

Pure clickbait.

I'm sure then that you saw the United "memo" that said they only need 5000 out of 25,000 FA's?

Again, out of context clickbait nonsense.

...improving to 2500 by Fall of 2021...
This is a lot less insane, but we stil don't know. I suspect they will announce 2000-2500 furloughs, then adjust the bid before it gets to that point to closer to 1500-2000. As they impliment that "plan" based on extremely limited and rapidly changing data based off a snapshot with guesses thrown in, as reality unfolds the "plan" and the "memo" will be adjusted to reflect that, and actual furloughs could be quite a it less under some realistic scenarios. Or they could overreact now, only to recall many hundreds very quickly (as in well prior to the 18-24 month ROI estimate often cited).

Do something Lieutenant, even if its wrong! That's where they are right now, with a dash of FUD thrown in just to see if they can claw back a little extra on general principle.

No one truly knows how all the variables will shake out. That includes management, and it especially includes anything that comes from a "memo".
