Its likely in this case maybe not so much mandatory at 60.....as it was the 2000+ pilots who 'had' to retire before delta filed bankruptcy.

Plus some unique AE or displacement opportunities created in the subsequent chaos.

I seem to recall this accelerated advancement was cited as the offset for the distribution weighting of payouts from bankruptcy.

agreed, all my friends at the various airlines are in the same boat with the same theories and rumors being floated on their private message boards.

You’re not the only one. I don’t want to sound too enthusiastic because I might get banned.

Perhaps so, but the two are closely related. How many of those 2000 would have made the same decision if instead of looking at say 1-7 years left were looking at 6-12 Years left?

As far as the career goes - agree 100%. Never enjoyed "going to work" but always enjoyed "being at work." If that makes any sense.

Prolly not banned, but a brutal verbal "gang sodomizing" by the pack mentality bro's is a possibility

I'm not gonna get in the middle of this but to offer this one point. The guys who left early were ( for the most part) taking a 50% lump sum of 1 million $$$$. So 1M in hand and another 5k month??. I would have asked myself, " how long will it take me to save 1M $$ at current and/or projected pay rates?". (TVM and all that yada, yada, yada) At the time I was < 50 , was a75/76 capt grossing 170k per year, The answer would have definitely factored into my decision.

Glad I was unable to have a choice.

The thing that burned me up in the no choice category was the esop allocation we could only watch evaporate to zero

That was one of the few positives of being furloughed then. We were allowed to cash out those shares - not a whole lot but worth several K which is way more than the zip, zilch, nada those not furloughed got to realize.

777A at 50? Wow. I'll be furloughed at 46. This career really is timing and luck.
