I’m sure it looks like an endless supply of pliable flesh for scheduling and looks great on a PowerPoint presentation. What could go wrong?

ATL is getting a good share of growth for the 73N, but MSP, SEA and DTW have picked up quite a few. They are balancing out the loss of domestic 7ER flying in those cities with the 73N fleet. It wasn't a complete retrenchment into ATL.

ATL got super senior after the merger. Especially on narrow bodies. Several hundred NWA folks living in FL bid in to ATL or came in after MEM closed. Some of that went away with the VEOP and it should continue to normalize over the next few years. With a down economy probably for a few years you will see all bases start to get in line by seniority with the exception of the reinstatements over the next 12 months. Probably much less out of seniority aggressive bidding opportunities for a while.

I guess this "stove piping" will provide a little insight as to a question Ted74 asked last year....something to the effect of , "What does out of seniority mean?. There is no such thing as out of seniority". It may still be difficult to nail down a precise definition of "out of seniority", but this retrenchment will certainly paint a "picture" of it.

If we get to the point you can hold an seat in ATL or MSP, but can't hold that same seat in NYC, then we know we've entered the Twilight Zone.
This is entirely possible with the 737 and 320.

A lot of the FOs in NYC are on the furlough list. If we don’t get some news changing that by the end of the week I don’t see many Captain positions being back filled in NY other than the 220. On the other hand, Atl, Dtw and Msp have a lot of positions to fill. You might want to get some ketchup ready!
