I do like the idea of a more comparable standard month and higher pay when scheduled above that threshold. And the amount of time committed to a day of work when going to do a sim session, and the daily grind with traffic at different hours to/from the oasis of Virginia Ave. does make it less attractive than knocking down an efficient multi day trip or GS and having more of the month off.
At the merger, MSP had about 1,800 out of about 5000 pilots. There were plenty of pilots who commuted to/from MSP.

Any truth to the rumors that they are going to shorten the briefs and sim sessions to try and squeeze in extra training capacity?

Well if they keep going with FTDs for CQ, they just need to add more TVs.

This post is about training……only not at Delta……

I received a canned email from 9E director of training wanting me to apply for a simulator instructor position. I’ve never been an instructor. They will provide positive space to work and hotel while there. (Either PHX or MSP) Thought this was interesting seeing as Delta does not.

The old EDV contract had a lot of sim instructor carveouts. During the bankruptcy, pilots negotiated all that away to cripple the training department for leverage and to take the negotiating value and spread it out amonst everyone. After delta purchased us as raised the "beating will continue until moral improves" flag a lot of sim instructors bailed... right when delta lowered the flag and said "just kidding, we need pilots heres money!"

No one wanted to be a sim instructor, EDV had to throw deltas money at the problem and couldn't until they negotiated with us. I know it seems backward sometimes compared to most companies, but thats the deal. So we improved everyones life so delta could bring up the training departments QOL. Seniority list instructors were a little ****ed, but they'd get punched in the mouth if they complained to a line pilot in a crew room, and theyre just smart enough to know not to do that.

There are people that get real excited by sim training, but mostly pilots who live in msp area who dont want to commute. Then, the senior ones go to phx in the winter.

Well I won’t be applying. If it was part time and in my area I might think about but after 50+ years of working and/or going to school, I’m really looking forward to not being obligated/required to do anything after August 31. Just thought it was interesting.
