Our own FAs are under similar scrutiny, as another example.

Delta asks specifically about prior sick use (military and civilian) during pilot hiring boards. And of course pilots pursuing employment here know this.

in much of the private sector in the us, even taking earned vacation days is generally considered bad form.
There's a solution to both issues (sick leave, vacation time): It's called having a union, collective bargaining, and a contract.
For many reasons (some good, some not so good), private sector unions are very much out of favor in the us. (not so for government unions, which is rather odd).
Time for the pendulum to swing back the other direction.

My original comment was a response to someone saying, “After covid more people in the US should be calling in sick”. That’s a very narrow viewpoint, as It’s just not a viable option for many people.

Due to some loopholes in PRIA that allowed stuff to be "hidden", many companies now require you sign a privacy act waiver so they can get literally any piece of paper your previous companies kept about you. This would include absences for sick calls, I'd imagine.
Maybe COVID will reverse the culture a bit at airlines: Instead of frowning at an annual sick call a year during flu season, they'll instead be wondering how their applicant managed to fly 5-10 years without ever calling in sick (i.e., they flew while sick and exposed their coworkers/passengers to disease).
