As Buck pointed out, the key words in my statement were ‘in an elected or appointed position’. If you ever had been then you would be more aware of the power structure in our Association because you would have seen it operate from an insider’s viewpoint. I assumed you had not, so I was letting you know kind of how it works. Nothing more. If you interpreted that as patronizing that’s on you for not reading and understanding the sentence.
The rest of your reply, including where you told me I was wrong, has been refuted by others in this conversation. Additionally, I never said the MEC chair had no influence. I said his position was largely titular. Not the same thing.
Since you came looking for it, here’s some patronization, some might call it helpful advice - you would do well to spend more time in the receive mode vs transmit.

"It may do good; pride hath no other glass to show itself but pride, for supple knees feed arrogance and are the proud mans fees" - William Shakespeare
You would do well to learn this.

Answer is, they can’t unless they have direction from the MEC. It was the MEC that held the line. Anyone in the same spot would have been directed to do the same thing.
The top down, Chairman is the Captain of the Ship thing departed the pattern with LM, and a stake was put through its heart after TA1. These days the position is basically an office manager.

How exactly does any MEC officer do anything?

Great post... clearly not one sided and guided blindly by dislike for an individual. But, I read it on the internet so it must be true. RS did not much of anything, just ignore the codified COVID protections, the fatigue management improvements, the VEOP with its industry leading take rate, the asked for scheduling flexibility, and the furlough mitigation TA that includes many of the improvements that were sought in section 6 with a temporary give of TLV flexibility. Yup, not much of anything, especially during the last 8 months of pandemic.

According to one of my reps in C1, it was not a difficult decision. "Company man" and "Surrender monkey" are just plain wrong. The only negative comment I could dynamite out of him was "Sometimes RS didn't seem to work hard on things he didn't like, but was told to do"
I trust my reps.
