I think the canadian taxpayer would agree. The bombardier bailout from the Canadian gubbmint went to drop the airplane price. Lotta anger on that one still.

my guess is we will eventually replace the lift flown by 738/320/MD90 with the 73M8. Probably 200-250 or so eventually. Coupled with 321/21N and 221/223 I think this will be what our NB fleet looks like going forward. Probably 200-300 or so of each of the 3 AC types
The old 320s are definitely becoming worn out. Max could be a good fit. If Airbus wanted to twist the knife, they could trot out a good price on the neo but I don’t think they are as motivated as Boeing right now.

Airbus wants to beat Boeing in order books and spastic "heros of Farnborough" press releases, but long term AB needs BA to succeed to a certain degree. If AB were to become nearly the only full sized NB provider for the world the downline consequences would probably be worse. A viable competitor in a global duopoly is in both AB and BA's interests, as well as every airline, regardless of current fleets.

Probably should see how the 20/20 report goes over before buying anything.

If we waited for the fear porn MSM types to give a fair shake to anything aviation we'd be taking boats and trains everywhere. The MAX is especially low hanging fruit for them. What they say about it means nothing to me and I suspect the handful of people who watch it won't care either. I wonder if they'll feature Scary Mary for some insightful clarity LOL!

IDK, the exploding Pinto expose had some traction. Runaway Priuses, same. I’m not sure the DC-10 would’ve survived today’s media environment.

They still sold over 3 million Pintos, plus fake Mustangs that were very obviously still Pintos. Safety concerns aside, they were garbage cars in every other respect. The media's attempts to fear porn the MAX relaunch will be meaningless. Most likely after a pretty quick period of potential skepticism by very few actual consumers, most of that few who will book on other metal on the same airline anyway, sometimes causing others who don't care to book on the MAX for fare buckets or simply availability, it won't be a significant factor.

In any case, whatever actual money costing fear that remains, any given fear porn "expose" will have no significant additional effect. The real MAX story will be how the returning lift effects overall capacity and pricing power.
