Tone is hard on the internet. Don't get me wrong, for the bulk of the UNA/APs going to anything other than the 717, this is a nice pay bump, but at the cost of a seat lock.

But there are at least a dozen mil guys that I know of that are on open ended orders, that are affected by this. Two other guys here in Sandland that I had dinner with are in the same boat. On orders that end prior to training date, but in this area where we are no longer allowed to be paid

Heck its probably a day or two just for me to get into iCrew. I have to go to the other end of the base to get wifi that's fast enough to not time out trying to put MLOA into Icrew.

, its Delta policy.

Navy could care less about what money my civilian job pays when I'm on orders.

Many guys non airline companies make up the pay delta between reserves and normal salary.

That may be their course of action. The vacancy for LAX 7ER B made me think they were reconsidering the 7ER displacement plan. I think we are bringing a few more out of the desert than originally forecast. We will know next month.

I think the real intent of the mass conversion was to spend a little more in NQAT at better paying seats to damp down training churn.

I think the mil guys who had some time left on orders before training, but would be back in time was unintended but the way the company policy is but us in a no notice, no time square corner.

You don't....you keep the vacations weeks you were just awarded back in Jan and Feb for the vacation year that starts 1 April 2021. That is unless they get liquidated to send you to training.

You will bid in your new category in Jan 2022 for the 2022/2023 year.

I get what you're saying, but I think the time has come for that to be addressed. I don't think anyone needs to lose their job, instead I think the ALPA MAC can communicate with the company to see their intentions in this situation and/or get the DOJ involved depending on a response.

My understanding is that the heartburn from the company with concurrent duty was that there were zoomies sitting reserve with DAL and also sitting alert with their squadron; when scheduling called, the aforementioned pilot would then drop mil leave. That is most definitely abuse and something that a civilian equivalent can't do.

In this case, if Delta is allowing someone to do their side job while awaiting training, then there is no reason why a mil guy can't also do the mil thing until training. BS said in one of his townhalls that affected pilots will be given 30 days notice prior to training, so if you drop mil orders at the 30 days out, then I don't see the problem. Delta is trying to bully MIL guys just to save a few dollars that Delta was given for free. I know it comes more from a planning stand point; it must really suck for them not being able to plan more than 30 days out .

Finally, USSERA specifically states that a commander's letter can count as proof of duty. You don't have to provide orders to drop mil leave.

Yeah. I can see where that ****ed them off.

I have been activated once on 'how fast can you get to the squadron and be packed for a month' timeline after an earthquake in Haiti. I wasn't working here, but did have to cancel stuff with my then employer.

But normally I just bid around it.

Thanks for the reply.

I was a UNA at the time and was never awarded anything. What do I need to do now, or do they just assign me something?

I’m still not understanding the issue here. Are you on MLOA or not? If you are, then you get mil pay and go back to Delta whenever your MLOA ends. If you are not, then you’re making Delta pay and you’re free to go to training whenever.

Like I get the heartburn from the no-notice conversion, and that sucks, but I doubt the company did it JUST to stiff the guys on MLOA. They probably did it to stiff the Jan AE guys into having to take a seat lock if they bid on this AE.

Still, I’m not sure how it violates USERRA that you’re not being paid by the employer that you’re on a leave from. The civ guys got lucky this time, the mil guys did not. And I’m not hating on the mil guys, I’m also a reservist. I just don’t see how this is so horrible outside of Delta being sh*tty about the conversion timing.

I’m all about double dipping when there’s a leg to stand on, but that leg just went away, and not illegally. Just unfortunate timing-ly.

(Because management can’t be trusted, let us never forget that )

well, I’m a 7ER who was displaced on the MOAB, then displacement cancelled last month. 220 training for April just showed up on my schedule today.

Clearly, they are already planning to displace me again and have me ready for training first week of April! Who says the company isn’t planning ahead!
