I certainly hope they don’t split everyone onto two AEs two months apart. They’re just asking to assign people NYC220 and then have them bid off two months later. It would be another huge ordeal of wasted training space.

If that’s the plan it would seem they would be better off assigning everyone at once to avoid training churn.

I feel for the folks in Crew Resources and the Training department that burn up all these man hours for displacements then will have to rapidly reverse nearly all of it.

I agree Trip.

Reserve on my BES cuts very high up the seniority list now. We have a large number of NQAT. About as many of those as unaffected pilots.

In my almost 2 months on reserve, I've been used EVERY reserve period. To include a 1 day of availability left going into a hard no-fly day. They sent me on a one leg trip and DH back.

We ran undermanned last summer; management admitted to that fact. They know we will slip and fly no matter what so I'm not sure how we are going to man for this summer or next. My WAG is we remain intentionally undermanned.

We're still burning 10-12 million a day I think I read in the Q4 stuff. So hiring - don't see that happening for a year or more.

Are those guys going to be seat locked?

No, affected pilots return without a seat lock, as do UNAs

No. There is no seat lock coming out of UNA or “affected.” If they do a series of small AEs to bring them back it will just cascade training events on the junior fleets. Especially since the 220 is the junior NYC fleet and is only based there and SLC. Anybody who gets assigned it and wants any other base will change aircraft.

Reserve utilization varies considerably by fleet. WB FO RES is going senior by choice due to low utilization. If they don't run a knee jerk displacement bid, the WB fleets will be ready for a recovery this summer.

I bet they displace some in order to run a 365 bid. Otherwise, I think the lack of seat lock for those returning from affected status would cause a huge(r) training backup as pilots leave the junior fleet with each subsequent AE.

On second thought, I am not willing to bet on that happening.

I don't know how to run an airline, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Watching us this holiday season and knowing next fall could have a lot more travel worries me if they plan on keeping me away from the line all year this year because we are not being proactive and prepping ourselves for a recovery. Sure a big chunk of us affected could be put in our old types but there's also a big chunk that I'm in that need a new type entirely and know it will be months from recall to being available on the line.... But hey, green slips galore for you guys. Everyday I'm wishing I was back.... Hope the rumors come true...
that is because we have 3 AEs worth of people not fully trained yet. I personally believe we need to bring more pilots back, but from everything I have seen over the past 6 years, the company will take a few meltdowns a year to save money.

I agree. And there is historical precedent to your claim.
