I have the full self-driving package (still a bit of a misnomer) on my Model S. I took it into the service center last month for a pretty major upgrade and it now shows traffic lights, stop signs, and arrows painted on the pavement on the main driving screen. Still not fire and forget but useful and surprisingly accurate. My new favorite feature is an audible noise when you’re stopped at a light and the light turns green. Means I can turn around to tell the kids to stop fighting without worrying about missing a green light

My wife’s Nissan Murano has that feature, although it only works when I’m in the passenger seat. It goes like this, “ Light is green!.” Followed by her putting her phone down and punching it. Lol.
Truthfully though, that’s a cool feature and I’m enjoying reading this thread.

Great write up Bar, the only thing I disagree with is build quality. If I can figure out how to post pics I will add some from last week at the Tesla center.
edit: Can’t get the pics in. Things I saw were the roof glass uneven across back with left side ⅓ of a inch above right. Looked horrible from 20 feet away. Two cars had panels with white primer showing in gaps. Door on a Y awaiting delivery stuck out so far that it looked not closed. Sales tech tried to close it but realized it was closed and latched. Model X door handles off a half inch between front and rear doors. Demo car we drove trunk would not open all the way electrically and kept jamming. There were at least a dozen cars with red tape arrows pointing to paint and fitment issues awaiting service. Sales tech even admitted Tesla’s policy is ship now, fix later.
Having said all that the rest of the car is so good I will order one!

What you describe is not acceptable. It seems those cars were turned back. You are correct about the Tesla decision to push QC to the delivery center. There are some easy fixes and some things that could use an experienced touch.
Think you are local to me. If you want a wingman, just PM me.

My current dream car /\
My Model 3 had enough paint issues that I initially refused delivery. The SC person shrugged and said "OK." I had to climb off my horse and say "hey, lets get one of your guys and work through the list." ... and we did. I would caution about who you let get near your car with a buffer.
The Model 3 is not as robust a design as the Y. I had paint protective film applied on the front clip, rockers, quarter panels and bumper. I also did the center console so the piano black would be a matte finish. Best $1,000-$1,200 ever spent at Atlanta Clear Film in Roswell, GA.
However, as a daily driver, a spec of dirt in the paint just doesn't matter, or thin paint on the underside of a hinge. The cars have a lot of sealer and primer on them. Those who have torn down our cars advise that Tesla spends the money on the drivetrain and electronics. For example, pull the brake callipers off the cheapest Model 3 and they're the same 4 pot Brembos that are a $3,795 kit on a Ford Mustang.

Well for those thinking about the Standard Range model Y that Tesla released last month and dropped the price 2000 last week forget about it. They discontinued it yesterday but did reduce the price on the Long Range AWD 1000.00.

Wow. Wife and I were on their site yesterday afternoon and it still showed the standard range, but sure enough it’s not an option today. Doug DeMuro on YT has a good review of the first Y. I especially liked when he is going uphill on a highway on-ramp and floors it. You see a vehicle behind him fading into obscurity.

I keep hearing about the amazing performance of the Tesla...and in straight line acceleration it is fast. However, in the latest Car and Driver, they highlight the Lightning Lap at the Virginia International Raceway. The 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo S had a lap time of 2:55.2, beating the last Tesla P85D the tested by over 22 seconds! Tesla has come a long way, but still has a way to go before you call it a real performance car.
