During the Q&A on the earnings call, he stated that a final decision had not been made yet. But he did say that he could definitely see scenarios that would require hiring both pilots and flight attendants by the end of the year.

I’ll bet internally, though “the decision has not been made”, they are talking about a lot, and they all know it’s coming well before the end of the year. They are just waiting to pull the trigger until the risk is deemed worthwhile to take.

Strategic Communications 101. Talk in vague terms, and allow yourself an out.

Apparently United is now going to be targeting 190/month starting this summer in an attempt to bring on 1500-1700 by next summer. I suppose we don't need to commit to anything now, because with our training backlog, we wouldn't even likely be able to get newhires into the sim until the end of summer. We shrank far more than everyone else and likely needed to be hiring yesterday. It'll be interesting to see what they think the max new hire throughput will be, because I'm sure we'll be running at that level for the next few years whenever they can finally commit to hiring.

All of us CJO poolees had not been keeping our Airlineapps profile up to date, but in the last communication the leader of Pilot Selection told us to update our Airlineapps profiles for him. The unintended consequence is that a bunch of us are now getting invites from United. I think a not insignificant percentage will be poached if there isn’t some sort of way forward soon.
The more that choose this option the better it will be for everyone, so I encourage all to do what is best for their families.

For me personally, it is DAL. I have a lot of reasons for that. Most are pretty concrete. A few are Pollyanna-ish. Fortunately, the big game of hardball that went down last year and is still unwinding has been highly eye opening.
Delta will probably have some clarity before United gets to me.
