Downtown layovers

Glad to hear that, sent a few emails about the LAX downtown layover.
I guess I don't understand why some on here seem to think the only options are either downtown or a strip mall. So many other options out there.

That being said, mall or strip mall locations aren’t that great, either. Most suburban areas are clones of each other these days, so trying to seek any variety is fruitless
“Just Uber somewhere”. That almost became a reasonable argument, but ride sharing has really deteriorated as an option lately. Not sure if it’s a COVID thing, people figured out it was a bad deal or what, but it seems to have become a much less viable plan lately.

Without coming down on the side of one or the other, one of the downsides of downtown layovers is weekends and holidays. Not everywhere is NYC or Chicago, and lots of places roll up the sidewalks Friday at 5pm. CLT is a good example. Spend a Saturday there and it’s so empty the tumbleweeds blow in the street.

The light rail can be a bit sketchy late at night in CLT. Best to Uber for a few bucks.

I think Downtown as a "baseline" is OK, but "Or resort area/entertainment district with DALPA concurrence" would be better.
As a ER guy who does a lot of LAX that gets there at 9pm or so, there's not a ton near the hotel after 10pm (soonest you will get there and showered) during the week. Even pre-covid the stuff in the hotel was often closed randomly.
Santa Monica, far better. And faster to get to.
JAX, beach would be better... Downtown kind of sucks now.
SEA (in pre protest times) was nice downtown. BOS is a decent spot.
Detroit, Ann Arbor would be closer, and better IMHO.
FNT? Heck to the no about staying downtown (I went to college there, you want the burb layover, trust me)

From: 7ER B...whatever that means.
Hush your mouth! Attention senior bidders: there's nothing to eat or drink in Long Beach after 6pm. Nothing to do. At all. The harbor is ugly, the beach is gross and the girls are all fat. Plus, liberals...ewwwww
Seriously though, if you don't mind a 10 minute walk and are adult enough to be able to handle yourself passing an unhoused human or two on the sidewalk, it's a great layover. Big upgrade over downtown LA.
