Over the current hotel? I'd rather be at the airport, the current hotel is a long ride to nowhere with nothing around. Downtown DTW is good but the current situation seems unacceptable in my opinion. I bid to avoid DTW trips that don't layover at the airport.

I was literally just in Denver and there was plenty open and things to do downtown. It's right off the 16th street mall.

put me down for downtown all the time. Who needs another hotel between a highway and an Applebee’s? Also, most airport hotels, outside of maybe the ones that are attached, have horrible workout rooms and nowhere to run outside.
I always find it funny when people say there is nothing to do downtown. Really? Nothing? Most people just don’t want to walk farther than two blocks. If there isn’t a pint place right across the street, then, there just isn’t anything to do.
I guess I’m crazy though. I actually liked downtown BWI. Fells point was neat or you could cruise around the water. It had a couple nice parks

Small towns (quick van rides): Downtown layovers are AOK.
Major cities (long van rides): No thanks. Life is too short to spend 1-3 hours of a layover sitting in traffic in a van.
All American cities increasingly look the same anyway. Downtown safety is becoming a thing again. (aka "Murder-apolis". So much for Minnesota Nice.)
Internationally?
Yeah, better go downtown. Why fly international if you're not going to see some of the sights?

Idk, the idea has merit. I'd much rather layover in downtown Ann Arbor than downtown Detroit. There are plenty of cities that have awesome little enclaves that are not in the downtown. Probably best to address in a case by case scenario though.

I think the cutoff time between long and short layovers needs to change also. 12 hr layover I don't want to go downtown.. I'm not going to drink or go out usually. I just want to eat, work out, and sleep comfortably. 15+ hrs then maybe I'd rather go downtown. 12hrs isn't enough time imho.

If the layover is less than 13, and it's 30 minutes each way downtown = send me to the airport hotel. There's nothing I can do downtown that I can't do at the airport.
Oh, and 14 for ORD.

A good hotel committee should take care of that. Of course the contract needs to be a little more 'flexible' as well.

And, I agree in principle if the contract language gives the hotel committee teeth. Bc, the problem arises when the Ann Arbor hotel doesn’t want to renew or is too expensive for the company, so they move you to some enclave that isn’t as awesome.

I am referring to domestic flying only..I do like some downtown layovers but the number is getting smaller and smaller. Indy, Boston, Little Rock, Houston, among others are good. Then you have the bad.....Jackson, Buffalo, Albany, Tallahassee, Baltimore, Dayton, Providence, NY, and St Louis, just to name a few. I have found most guys who like the downtown layovers are big beer drinkers. They always say this layover is horrible but I have a hole in the wall bar I like to go too.
Basically, I disagree that we need to change our downtown layovers. Except JAN. That hotel is awful. But they do have $2 domestic beers so 🤷🏼♂️
