PDX is for sure going, they already zero’d all the sales on the route in travelnet.

HNL-HND is selling pretty good. As of changing the airfares back to normal prices following the DOT decision to deny us relief to change these slots, they have already sold half of the airplane on most days. Delta was purposely raising the airfare to make people not buy them so we could hopefully swap HND slots with a different route. Once they told us we can’t delay the route anymore for Covid and can’t change the route, they put fares back to normal and shockingly (sarcasm) they started to sell. PDX route never moved back to normal fares though. In the beginning the routes from HNL aren’t sold super well but the return trips are.

Either way I believe I read before October we have to either announce intentions to fly it or lose it, which is why most recently they just removed PDX-HND all together. Not sure if they don’t see a demand in PDX anymore as we also cut ICN route as well.

This was the goal. Nobody thinks monthly bids are here because the pilot group wanted it.

I'm sure they'd love to keep the slot (I think they tried to transfer it a few times), they just don't want to fly from spoke to spoke. You're absoutely right, plenty of other airlines will b happy to take up the slot when the DOT gets tired of DL's games.

 

DOT already denied our request to move the slots off HNL/PDX routes. Also Japanese will no longer let us delay for Covid. It’s fly or give it up. United played a decent part in forcing that decision, lodging a complaint against our request to move the slot to a different route. Time for Delta to actually fly our international routes.

Yeah now that things have normalized I would be willing to bet that we don't see any top paying widebody to new hires for at least another 2 decades closer to 3. And it'll take today's new hire about 15 years to hold widebody FO.
