Data shows that Air Travel has never been safer than it is today. That's how big of an impact CRM and Standard Operating Procedures has been. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk |

Have we not learned that some engineers make great pilots, and some do not. People who fixate on system knowledge and how to build the damn airplanes do not usually have the greatest concepts or see the "big picture". I have seen it over and over again with people that ace the written test but struggle in the sim when things are not under their control. Not always, but a lot..

CRM is as important a pilot skill as stick and rudder. CRM, Threat and Error Management, and improved Pilot Monitoring has vastly improved air travel. Overall, I believe pilots today are significantly better than yesterday due to improved CRM skills.
Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk How hard you can pull an Immelmann turn without spinning out is just not part of the job. The complexity and precision with which you have to navigate today requires management and monitoring. Next RNAV departure and arrival try hand flying it without a FD single pilot. Same for an RNAV approach. An autopilot is required these days. Now try doing the same with a last second runway change. 🙈 The days of headings and altitudes from a controller (which I could hand fly) are gone. |

When I call for flaps, I want them. Spin my bugs, like I tell you. I'm hand flying. Don't delay. Thank you. Majority of of folks can't keep up when I'm hand flying. So we are somewhat hamstrung to use the automation as they are the lowest common denominator. What say you? |

I hand fly ALL the time and I literally never have a problem. The Captains here are incredibly competent. |

The other guy should be monitoring not spinning, pushing, selecting and pressing as if you had 4 hands. It’s their job to verify what you are calling for is acceptable BEFORE he/she/etc. blindly overspeeds the flaps or misses you blowing through the LOC on a triple parallel VISUAL approach.
