Well fellas, here’s an interesting one. I failed an upgrade 121 training event on a new type. First “pink slip” I have ever gotten. I want to throw up.
I have an interview within the week. On a scale of 1-10, how screwed am I? Context: overspeed the flaps on final from a localizer approach landing into DCA after talking with the FO that we were ok to defend below MDA. In other word, I fell behind the airplane and realized I was about 15kts above Vapp when we weee 50 ft above the ground, should have just called a go around. Landed within the touchdown zone with roughly half to 1/3 of landing distance remaining when going to a full stop, so the aircraft was not at risk of overshooting the runway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I don’t think you’re screwed at all. This could be a golden opportunity to shine, actually. If I were telling that story, it would end with not going around when you should have…that’s the big learning point about a poor reaction that you got out of your system. If the interviewers are curious how the landing went they can ask, but continuing on yourself without prompt could be misconstrued as justifying the failure to go around when you should have. Delta has pilots failing to go around when they should have All. The. Time. They’re on a mission to reduce these instances and identifying your biggest error (the failed go-around, not the overspeed) could best demonstrate your preparedness for the job. |

You're experience is more than just the latest check ride - you have a long history of passing and success, one bad day doesn't define a career. Good luck! |
Thanks for the input everyone! To be honest, I was caught between studying for the interview and the new aircraft, I mis-prioritized and that’ll never happen again. Reflecting back on it, in kind of a messed up way, I am kinda glad it happened in the regard that I am never going to let external pressures control my decision making. We all talk about it and study it but until it happens to you it really sets in stone, and I am glad this happened in a tough sim scenario rather than in the real aircraft. Even though there was no threat to loss of life, it was still a big deal but an even greater learning lesson.
On a sappy side note, Delta is the airline I want to spend the rest of my life at. We have a 100k bonus at my airline to flow or get hired OTS and I plan on walking away from that bonus in a heartbeat. Thank you to everyone who has commented so far, the help is what I expected from your fine Pilot group. I’ll report back after the interview! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
CJO to Class Date
I Interviewed early Jan and received the CJO. After calling Cisive two weeks ago I was told that my background check was complete and notice was sent to DL. A few days after that phone call I received the "PRIA/PRD Background check is complete, you're one step closer to becoming a Delta pilot" email. I still have not heard from DL or been offered a class date. Is this a normal amount of time to wait? Should I try to contact someone? How long is the typical wait for a class date? I know of others who have accepted CJO's after me and have started class already. No military background, currently a regional CA if that matters. Thank you for the input

Complex Control Score
For those using the CUT-E cog prep, what's a good score on the Complex Control (plane flying through the tube) game? Any tips?

Anyone else having a hard time getting the interview scheduled? I called last week and left a message as instructed and still haven't heard back, getting close to the 7 day limit.

Probably closed today for Presidents Day. Call a couple times a day. My buddy got an answer last week.
