Hey all. I recently interviewed and received a CJO from DAL. I know it’s been asked a million times; I understand New York is a junior base, but I have been told Minneapolis is being awarded to new hires. Is Atlanta being awarded to new hires? I live on the east coast, so Atlanta would be my go to. What time frame could I anticipate to hold Atlanta? Is equipment being offered random per class, or has it been rather steady (same amount of 320/737)?
TIA for any info. I’m really excited to come over! ATL is being awarded to NH classes, along with most other bases from time to time, and is based on the last 4 of your SSN, where 99XX is the first choice, and 00XX is the last. However, even if your class does not offer ATL (or pretty much any other base), you should be able to change bases almost immediately. We are having monthly vacancy bids (called an AE - Advanced Entitlement), which is more often than we used to, and is projected to continue. Recently, AE's close around the 14th or 15th of the month. So, if your start date is in the first half of the month, you can bid for a base change the day you start, and get awarded a base change almost immediately. Note, however, that it takes a few months for the actual "conversion" to the new base, but it also takes about that long for you to complete indoc, study week, and training. So best case, you may never actually report to your 'original' base. And worse case, you may have to commute for a month or maybe two. There are no guarantees, but nearly every NH is able to change bases very quickly at the moment. |
LOGBOOK Question:
Been a few years at my current LCC and I haven't updated my logbook since 2019. I've heard you can make entries by MONTH instead of daily. Any issues with this? Thanks in advance. |

I would also add, this is Delta and not an LCC… Treat the interview like it’s your last, if you want to get hired put the effort into updating your logbook. I know it’s a PIA, but the hiring team will appreciate the effort. |
No specific reply for you but I have an observation. In years past, pilot selection was very competitive. Prospective pilots did all sorts of things to bulk up their resumes. If you haven't been keeping up your logbook for the past 4 years it might be viewed as a lack of professionalism and lack of commitment in that the effort is too much, You might be penny wise, pound foolish. The most "nuts and bolts" part of the app is too laborious for your attention to detail? Might just put you at the bottom of the pile. If they scrape the barrel far enough, you may win the lottery. Do you want to take that chance?
"It appears like you have been procrastinating for the past 2 1/2 years, why?" might be a good conversation topic for you though if you get to the interview stage. "That's a bold strategy Cotton!" Do you want to see if it plays out for you? Have you ever heard the saying, "If you feel the need to ask the question, you probably know the answer?".....or am I just showing my age? |

Congrats on the CJO. Short version: bid for equipment, not for base. You will be able to change bases very quickly.

I hear this a lot.. some people even saying it’s been 10 years. so- if that’s the case, so be it. But how are you possibly going to have any accuracy?? Even if the company can print you out a list of your flights… how will you possibly remember which legs you landed? How much was night? How much was instrument?? |
